I have seen a number of bio pages clearly written by friends or family, hagiographic in nature and plastered with "needs citations."
I appreciate the work editors do to try and keep it functioning with some accuracy.

Thank you Nonsuch Ned . I am really glad to find that some articles are actually locked to the general public. I think it is cool that you are a specialized editor for wikipedia and you find it something you like to do. I would hate that people vandalized and screwed up data that I was keeping current, though. Especially about baseball, which is all about the numbers. Good job on the article clean up about Def Jam...I was under the impression from the name of a rapper named Mos Def that def was short for definitely. But I wouldn't edit a wiki page to say that.

Wikipedia is a maybe, maybe not situation. Anything anyone in the world can put up or edit is bound to have it's sketchy and 100% true moments. If it isn't supportable by at least three completely independent sources, it may be made up stuff. I learned that in college Reporting. But college can teach you made up stuff sometimes, too, or things that have since been disproven. So much opinion was passed on as fact. Curse you, oral tradition! I am back to where I was as a tiny tot-asking "Why?" a whole lot. "Unless you lived it and think it's a pretty good summary of events." - donavan Amen, donavan . There are limits to what you can do and dedicated volunteer editors do keep an eye on pages. I've done a small amount of wiki writing and editing. The most high profile stuff I've done has been writing little summaries of the Detroit Tiger's recent seasons. As it is highly visible article about an MLB team there are tons of edits but if you look at the history of the page you can see editors constantly fixing vandalism and removing poorly attributed or non-attributed sections. Then you have those that spend their time reformatting the structure and fixing grammar. Really sensitive articles are completely protected and locked from the public at large from editing. A political figure like Joe Biden would be one. If they didn't limit the contributors you'd have constant vandalism and propaganda for or against written into it. then there's something like a pop culture article. those aren't as protected and can have badly attributed junk in them. Recently Tom Demi shared a line he found in the Wiki Article for Rick Rubin, explaining the name "Def Jam"- his first record label. " The word 'def' in urban culture is slang for a song or musical composition that is well liked for its attractive rhythm and dance appeal." It is stupid nonsense and not just a little racist white-splaining. I looked through the history to investigate. That line had been there for TEN YEARS- or a form of it. It began as a definition of "Jam" not "Def" and both times it was added and changed by an anonymous user. So I edited the hell out of that section. Got rid of the entire sentence and put the entire section into a better context, referencing actual articles. (It wasn't even in the section ABOUT Def Jam, it was in the section about Rubin's second label, American Recordings, which started out as "Def American Recordings"- the section was all about why Rubin removed "Def" from the name. Ironically, it was because a definition of it was included in a dictionary. So yeah, Wikipedia can be a mess and SHOULD NOT be used as a primary source. BUT if you recognize how it works you can figure out what is useful information and use not wikipedia itself, but the sources used as references in the article, as good sources. Then there are my anime pages. I have written my share of character descriptions, those are unsourced and full of spoilers. If you look at the page for the manga/anime MIX, I wrote the plot summary and first draft of every character profile on the page. I use the name Nonsuch Ned there too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Nonsuch_NedMy new thing is editing pages for a specialized wiki dedicated only to one anime franchise, Tenchi Muyo. I don't know, I find it fun. Favorite Tenchi character? I have a fondness for mad scientists, so Washu would be my choice.

My new thing is editing pages for a specialized wiki dedicated only to one anime franchise, Tenchi Muyo. I don't know, I find it fun. Favorite Tenchi character? I have a fondness for mad scientists, so Washu would be my choice. Hard. Washu is a good choice. She is so much more insane when you get into the novels and expanded universe. There's a funny bit not in any anime where she decides to slum it in a galactic flea market, selling stuff from Earth to see what people will do with it. What got the most attention, that the Earthlings kept having dissuade their friends from buying, was a hospital's urinal bottle. "Hey, Kiriko, wouldn't this be a great container for tea?" -"Put that down, Amane." There are currently 17 Tenchi Muyo GXP novels- the absolute in hilarious male power fantasies, so I guess I'll have to go with Seina. In the currently running 5th OVA series (he's just a side character) he has completed marriages with 8 brides and there are plans for the next 4 (they come in quartets for a tremendously convoluted reason about reincarnation and the reasons his bad luck is adjusted) and many more on the wings. He is immortal (thanks to Tenchi unconsciously granting immortality to all he feels close to), 3rd in line for the Jurai throne, apparently King of five empires in another part of the galaxy, learning to control his new immense capacity for controlling magic, owner of (and eventual husband of) Fuku, the sister ship of Ryo-ohki, owner/partner of Zinv, the galaxy's fiercest Mecha... and another 3 of his future brides are also cabbits. Wedded bliss:

Back to life on life's terms for me...my mom came home Friday late afternoon. I went over for a quick visit that became at least four hours long, but it included my mom's evaluation for Palliative Care, to which she was accepted. I met mom's caregiver and spent time with my mom. I showed her a couple things on the iPad, including how much bigger the font you can text with is and where to find Shared File pictures. She was interested, but is frustrated with how difficult it is to communicate when you can't get the words you are thinking to come out of your mouth. Also, the particular area of her brain that was affected by the stroke/angioplasty repairs has caused a condition called aphasia. Her sadness and frustration just come pouring from her eyes as tears...you know the Anime characters that look like waterfalls are emanating from their eyes-it turns on like that. It is not something she can control, it is due to damage. She may be sad, but she isn't depressed and fortunately the doctor who came on the Palliative Care Evaluation team took her off the anti-depressants she was put on. What is getting me through is talking about things mom did when I was younger, like her incredibly wonderful witch cackle! She also baked the most delicious cookies, cupcakes, pies and cakes. I don't think I have ever had home made Pecan Pie or Pumpkin Pie like mom's. Her Oatmeal Pineapple cookies were my favorite and whatever color of cake frosting I asked for on my birthday cakes, she did-even the purple with light blue polka-dots. I have been spending weekdays with my Baby Grands-that is an experience I am thrilled to have right now in my life. Laughing with my grandson and making sound effects for trains and heavy equipment as I crawl around on the floor does wear me out, and I even started taking Iron and B-12 supplements again. At first, I was ready to crash at 8:30 pm, but Friday it was 5:30pm when I was wondering how long I would sleep if I just lay down and drifted off-would I wake up to brush, floss, C-pap mask myself or not? Mr. Partridge, if either of your children have given you and your beautiful Missus any Baby Grands by now, I hope you are being inspired by the differing viewpoints you have held in your life. For me, it has been mind-boggling. What ideals I had then, what I think now; what love I prized then, the enormous plenty of other kinds of love I am feeling now. Before, I felt like I was counting down time, always waiting for something to happen or someone to show up. Now, I feel like it doesn't matter how much time I have left. Everything I have now is TIME BONUS! Whoo hoo! If I get distracted by politics or mind numbed ignorance, I stop and ask myself the HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired) questions and act accordingly.

Forget Mr. Partridge. It's about you and your mum. I've been thru what you are going thru but that means nothing. It's you, just you and your mum. Sounds like you are doing what you can. It can never be enough but it's all you can do. And you are doing it well. All my love. There is no language, it's your time. But if it comforts, my love is with you x

Knowing you and others have been where I am, now, it does mean something to me. I thank you for the reminder that what I do can never be enough, but that it is all I can do. That is very meaningful and it helps a lot. I value your words of strength and return the love. <3

My brother... love the guy, but he did, and may still, really hate using condoms.
My dad, through the 23&me site (I think that's the one with the DNA tests) has found another person with an identical genetic relationship to him and my mother. Another unknown grandchild. You may remember that a granddaughter (niece to me, of course) was discovered a couple years ago- she was put up for adoption by my brother and girlfriend at birth and she was looking mainly for mediacal info on the family background. We are on good terms with her now. Although none of us have met personally.
This one, a grandson/nephew, believed he already knew who his father was (his mother's first husband) and is stunned by the revelation. He found the relationship first and, being new, He misread the results as strangely saying that HE was Grandfather to my 77yo father and got in contact with him. It was my dad that connected that he was also related to my mother. In this case, it may be possible that my brother has no idea of his existence. Apparently my father hasn't contacted my brother yet because the man in question (30yo), is quite shook up and doesn't know how to react. I believe they all (my brother, the mother, and man in question) still live close to each other.
Yeah, technically it doesn't have to be him. It could be me or my other brother. But it wasn't me (13-14yo nerd at the time) and my other brother was a straight-laced newlywed living several states away.
At this point it's not gonna knock me over with a feather if you told me he had a couple more. Actually, a little after this time he also had a Canadian girlfriend (we lived at the border- not so unlikely) that he was engaged to for a short while. We met her and her three children- one being a baby girl of a year or so. I also always wondered about that girl.

Confused? You should be! I was. I learnt today from a farmer why he grows green beans in his fields, doesn't harvest them, then kills them. Go Google!

That is a very tricky sitch, especially due to the proximity of their residences. I'm glad to hear your neice is on good terms with your family...the best thing about surprise genealogy links is the health histories and predispositions that are forwarning for the offspring. I hope this resolves itself in a positive way for your family, Nonsuch Ned!

Confused? You should be! I am I learnt today from a farmer why he grows green beans in his fields, doesn't harvest them, then kills them. Go Google! That's enough to break a true farmer's heart! Government subsidized? Controls the price of crops, keeps the economy from plummeting and keeps the bank from foreclosing on the farm.

Apparently the process adds nitrogen to the soil to enrich it for next years crop of choice. If the bean crop was harvested before destroying the nitrogen return would be depleted.

KILL GREEN BEANS. SAVE THE NITROGEN CHILDREN.
Why can't all the beans get along? Human variety specifically.
