Maradona good, Pele better, George Best. I watched a documentary about Maradona a year or two ago...it must have been exciting to see him play before he became such a tragic figure. Pele was notorious in a good way and incredibly talented. George Best...I am not familiar with him. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbVatiHiQrc You may notice how people kicked lumps out of him (or at least tried to), but in those days you didn't fall over at the merest touch to gain a free kick Enjoy!

Thank you, bimble ! I didn't notice people kicking him so much as I noticed his ball control and amazing balance. Sometimes, it even looked like he was messing with opponent players...kicking the ball through one's legs and then going around him, going one way, reversing in place and then kicking a goal. I have noticed Bundesliga players act like somebody kicked or tripped them and do the big fake tumble. I have wondered what that's about-buying time?

I went to see my mom Thursday, after I helped with the Baby Grands...another one of my sisters had arrived from Central California. While we yakked, my mom was watching METV (old TV Westerns, cop shows and the like) in the room with us. She seems to have taken comfort from us being there. She seemed pretty happy. One of my sisters boiled a chicken and some veggies, took out the meat and veggies and then made bone broth. They are working at strengthening mom due to her not really getting much nourishment when she hasn't got an IV in. She still isn't swallowing food to her satisfaction, but drinks nutritional supplements o.k.
I had a great time with the Littles this past week. My inner child is having a field day!
I got out and did my errands early, today. It is projected to be 111 degrees F here. I got ice and sorbet and am keeping my fingers crossed that the power doesn't go out.
I am missing the fun of The Kids' Room, but don't even have the time to write meaningful texts...emojis have always seemed like a garnish, to me. Now, they are coming in really handy.

The "winning" of a free kick or penalty by "drawing" a foul is unfortunately now pretty much universally viewed as a valid tactic in all top football leagues. Players will trail a leg as they pass people to make contact and then go down as if shot, for one tactic. It's quite a skill, actually!

When you are watching sport(s) do you ever feel like "Hey, there used to be rules and penalties for people who faked getting fouled! You're out of line, buddy!" I do. As far as any kind of Penicillin goes, my mom has been allergic since she was a kid. She is allergic to a whole lot of antibiotics-the only thing that seems to not make her more ill is a drip IV in a hospital. Going with her to the ER, I have seen doctors scratching their heads and wind up saying...then there's nothing really that we can give you.

The temperature is lower today...I wonder if that is because of the brownish haze of smoke from the two fires I live between. Light is definitely reduced.

I hate that weird yellow shadow effect that tells you everything is fucked up. And the way the sun looks like it's dying. You have to check the air quality readings before you dare exit the abode.
Hope the fires are contained soon.

It's somewhere way after dark in the middle of the night Burning as they knew but you're never gonna see any light Come on and, run run with me You'll never know what you see Who knows now what you might find if you take a little time to push beyond the Shadowline
FLESHTONES
Hope things work out.

A big fire broke out to the east, in the McKenzie river area, on Monday night. By Tuesday a thick smokey air dominated everything and remains today. The fire is 100% uncontained, but the wind direction is supposed to change favorably soon, and blow the fire back into itself. It's 30-40 miles away from us, so no immediate danger. Except breathing.

EEK! Hope you are safe, miles! There are so many fires on the US West Coast right now, it is a wonder that any of us can see where we are going. It is like Tule Fog without the moisture and makes it seem like everybody is BBQing and burning their dinner. The dense smoke layer close to Earth does take the edge off the heat, but I still feel like it is hotter than the thermostat is telling me. Air quality should have new extra super low category under Unhealthy called Fire Smoke-Wear Mask Even Indoors. It is not as bad as it was in my area when the Grand Prix Fire occurred in 2003. It has been called the worst air quality in 30 years by the AQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District) which is pretty danged bad. Thanks, donavan - also, nice lyrics describe danger out in nature pretty well! One of the fires that is belching out smoke to the East of me was started by some gizmo at a baby gender reveal party-well, they may have started a conflagration that has burned tens of thousands of acres of land, but they know the sex of the junior idiot they will have. The authorities (per news reports) have said the persons responsible for the accidental ignition of this wildfire MAY be charged with breaking some law or other and billed for firefighting expenses...I am curious to know how much that will set them back.

And of course, as if things weren't bad enough, the idiots on Fakebook are spreading rumors that all the fires are being set by Antifa, and are driving around with their big guns looking for people dressed in black to shoot.
Even inside the smoke smell is prevalent. There are a couple rooms like my studio that are cleaner and I try to stay in them when I can.
These are the kind of events predicted for 20 years from now, the planet said Time's Up.

Thanks Bimble. We are safe for now, the fires have retreated, but the air is still crap. Hopefully in a few days . . .

miles I am asking the Universe to send rain your way...a little humidity is worth it if it dampens the fire's spread. There was a fire nearer to me than the two I am already between...by the time I found out about it, it was out. The air just seemed a little browner and the smoke lower than it had been. I saw my mom, today. She looks good, sounds good, did her exercises with the Occupational Therapist that arrived while I was there. I think she'll always need someone with her from now on, though. I told her to do her exercises and get strong so all the people calling and texting can come over for a visit. I reminded her that she doesn't have to wait for them to call her, she can initiate the invitations. Fingers crossed that she will listen to me and DO it!
