Went to a NHS clinic and a NHS hospital on Friday. No masks required. Thank goodness, now we need a massive investment into our health service to catch up. Forget the levelling up bullshit. That will never happen. Just sort out health-care. Five hours waiting for an ambulance recently for someone and dying before they got there is unacceptable.

On this side of the pond, we have the opposite problem, Don. Ambulances are called whether we need them or not, which sounds nice until the bill for ambulance services is thrust upon the patient. That is why there are more and more stories here of people refusing ambulances even when they are necessary, because the cost is so high. Similarly, there are more and more stories of drivers working for ride-share companies refusing to pick up customers who call for an Uber instead of an ambulance to save money, then get pissed when the driver says, "Fuck off--you're not bleeding all over the back seat of my Prius."

That's beyond fucked up. Thing is what you people do today, we do tomorrow. And we are half way there. I go private for some of my health-care because the NHS refuse to do it.

So long covid is the same as acne in numbers. So it's just another thing we deal with. No use hanging on to covid. It happened like all sorts of other things happened and will happen again. It's the holding on to it and not letting go because it all consumed us for two years that is the big problem. And leads into my mental health post. I see people driving in a car alone wearing a mask. They are in too deep and won't let go. We need to move on. This is becoming the new climate change issue. We can't address it sensibly because we can't get over the doom and gloom headlines. We need to move on responsibly and leave the clickbait behind. The long term Mental Health issues and the complete lack of Behavioral Health diagnoses during this never ending pandemic will be just as enduring as the physical ones, I fear. My health care provider was proactive and set up free access to a couple apps for phone and computer. I didn't take advantage, but it reminded me I have tools already at hand: daily readings do ground me and remind me not to get caught up in the whirlwind/morass of misinformation. I have been more in touch with my kids, siblings and friends. I am back here on the BP. Thinking of others' beliefs and reflecting on what is most important between others and myself has initiated a lot of personal growth. Point of View from my side of the mask: I have to put the thing on before I leave the house. I wear it in my car. It is so I do not forget the danged thing at home or in the car and then have to turn around and unlock something to get a mask. You (universal you) and I know that there are people out there who are cavalier about wearing masks. We are going to be passers through germs someplace, sometime, somewhere and we can't pick and choose where those obstacles are in our paths. If that makes me in too deep with mental illness, then color me fucking nuts. However, with my family history, including my own, I know there are way more dangerous things with which to be preoccupied. I say its not a big deal for me to deal with my OCD triggers of Germs and Bugs to wear a mask to help my own Mental Illness and get out in the world to do the things I need to do there. "So it goes."

I guess that is your choice and works for you. My choice is not to continue doing something I didn't do before Covid. To move on and not be frightened and muzzled. That's works for me.

Yes. It does work for me. Thank you for recognizing that. I wouldn't want to muzzle anyone-literally or figuratively. All should have the freedom to speak their piece.

Yes. Although we may struggle to understand you because of your face diaper. 😉

If I am actually having trouble communicating with someone, I pull my mask away from my mouth at the bottom so my words are less muffled. My stuffy nose already makes it tough for people to understand me.
I have realized that some people with hearing problems have been lip reading for quite some time. They have been annoyed with my mask wearing. Then they get hearing aides and things change. When they don't wear the hearing aides because they don't like them, we go back to start all over again. (There are two of them. Boss & ex.) Usually, mask or no, they are both ignoring me due to the fact that I talk to myself. I guess it is a moot point. (When I post, it is the same thing. Does this go in deleted posts?)

There was a recent study of mortality rates after vaccination became available. In the US, there was not a great deal of resistance to the vax at first. As the initial wave receded, many thought it over. Then came Delta. By this point the MAGA areas refused vax in much higher numbers than the blue states. So yes, the MAGA areas had higher mortality for the Delta wave. Now this led to speculation about the election results, did enough MAGA supporters die to actually change the outcome? They found only one example, the Attorney General's race in Arizona.
