Well, we are truly and deeply in it now. Instead of a panic room, this is just a place to share, vent or whatever.
Here in Eugene, the last week saw a transformation in public attitude and behavior. Even up until Tuesday or Wednesday, people acted pretty much like business as usual. Then like a fast thaw, it changed. Stores are open but many shelves are picked over. People are staying apart in public. It won't be a brief disruption, as many hoped. The economic downturn and hit on people's income/work is something we are starting to figure in to our immediate future. So far, people seem to be in good spirits and helpful. The kids may enjoy staying home for a week or so. Beyond that?
My next show, and the whole event, a convention scheduled in Seattle has been cancelled. More of these events, in different parts of the country are likely to follow suit. I don't need these sales to survive, but I know many others losing work are not so fortunate. I will be spending as little $ as possible for a time.
We will get through this, but things may look very different on the other side.

I can't get over the feeling that we are trapped in a b-movie produced by the ghost of Irwin Allen.

Getting a little scared now. And I'm usually so foolhardy.

Getting a little scared now. And I'm usually so foolhardy. If you not a little scared, you're not paying attention. Take care my friends.

George R R Martin is in self-isolation, the good news is he's finally back to work on that pesky novel. “With quarantines, lockdowns and social isolation on the menu everywhere, and all the usual entertainment venues closing their doors, reading is the best way to pass the empty hours,” urged Martin, adding: “Strange days are upon us. As ancient as I am, I cannot recall ever having lived through anything like the past few weeks.” Sharing a handwashing infographic spliced with words from Frank Herbert’s novel Dune (“I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death”), Martin said that “some days, watching the news, I cannot help feeling as if we are all now living in a science fiction novel”. “But,” he added, “not, alas, the sort of science fiction novel that I dreamed of living in when I was a kid, the one with the cities on the moon, colonies on Mars, household robots programmed with the Three Laws, and flying cars. I never liked the pandemic stories half so well … Let us hope we all come through this safe and sound. Stay well, my friends. Better to be safe than sorry.” www.theguardian.com/books/2020/mar/18/i-feel-fine-george-rr-martin-reassures-fans-from-self-isolationI feel much the same. The unreality of it has a literary quality, how things are so superficially normal, but with casual examination, there is so little holding things together. A "revolution" of sorts is here, just not the one advocated.

I'm having to telecommute at a position I occupied many years ago. I've got access to training and can perform some real tasks for the next two or three weeks; but after that, we're encouraged to continue staying online all day and take work-related self-improvement measures, like enhancing our skills in Excel, PowerPoint and other tools.
Meanwhile, my four kids and the oldest's girlfriend are going stir-crazy. Sometimes they enjoy doing things the old-fashioned way -- board games, cards, telly, confabs, etc. -- but other times they fight over videogame rights or just plain find no pleasure in anything. They can't go out with friends, or even the corner store; I cannot leave the house without an exceptionally good reason.
It's a siege. If it lasts beyond April, we'll all go bonkers.

An interesting observation about the self-isolation... There may well be a hospital bed shortage again in 9 months, in maternity wards all over the world.

It's important to understand the difference between self isolating and social distancing.

I'm going with levity.
"The CDC has just announced that “in settings where weed is not available, persons might use homemade weed (e.g., oregano, parsley) as a last resort.”
