A leading QAnon promoter who urged both her followers and strangers she passed on the street not to take the COVID vaccine died Thursday of the coronavirus, making her just the latest vaccine opponent killed by the disease. Cirsten Weldon had amassed tens of thousands of followers across right-wing social media networks by promoting the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy under the screenname “CirstenW.” She was prominent enough to become a sort of QAnon interpreter for comedian conspiracy theorist Roseanne Barr and started recording videos about QAnon with her. Weldon focused on attacking vaccines and other efforts to fight COVID-19, saying in one video that Dr. Anthony Fauci “needs to be hung from a rope.” She claimed the vaccine killed people and even recorded herself yelling at people standing in line to receive vaccines. “The vaccines kill, don’t get it!” Weldon warned the waiting vaccine recipients in an undated video posted to one of her online accounts. “This is how gullible these idiots are. They’re all getting vaccine!” In late December, however, Weldon started showing symptoms of coronavirus infection. In her last video, posted on Dec. 28, Weldon struggled through her remarks about the coming overthrow of the United States government, coughing and complaining that she was exhausted. Three days later, Weldon was hospitalized in Camarillo, California. She posted a picture of herself wearing an oxygen mask to Instagram and claimed she had “bacterial pneumonia.” Weldon wrote in a post on the social media network Telegram that she refused to take coronavirus treatment remdesivir, calling it “Dr Fauci’s Resmedervir (sic).” Weldon’s death from COVID is just the latest instance of a far-right personality who opposed vaccination being killed by the virus. On Jan. 3, radio host Doug Kuzma died while infected with the coronavirus. In August, QAnon promoter Robert David Steele died of the virus shortly after posting a picture of himself in an oxygen The problem with stories like this is the potential to lump all people who are vaccination hesitant into the same category as the people you describe above. I'm sure you are not doing that here but many people do make that connection and demonise others without knowing their back story.

What is true is that there is a confluence of anti-science, anti-abortion, Qanon, anti-democratic, and white supremacist ideology under the tent of anti-vax. I'm not saying all who oppose vax are onboard with the rest, but a large percentage are.

A trucker convoy that has rolled across the U.S. protesting coronavirus health measures and other government mandates met an unexpected roadblock in Oakland when neighbors came out in force to throw eggs at the group.
Video posted on YouTube (warning: video uses explicit language) shows a cadre of big-rig cabs and smaller vehicles blaring their horns as they rolled through a quiet residential street in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. The caravan was protesting an abortion rights bill proposed by Democratic Assembly member Buffy Wick, who lives in the East Bay neighborhood.
The neighbors were not pleased.
Residents shouted, “Get out of town,” while hurling eggs, some of which pelted truckers who had their windows rolled down. In at least one instance, a hopping-mad truck driver stormed up to a resident who had been throwing eggs to scream expletives in her face.
The People’s Convoy was founded by a group of truckers in February to call for the end of COVID-19 mandates across the country. Most restrictions have been eased since its founding, but the group continues to protest what is says are rollbacks of civil rights.

In your opinion. No idea how you would know that. Most people who have concerns don't sing it from the rooftops. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good story, eh? 😉

Maybe skip the footy bit ⬆️. But the rest is pure gold. Well done Matt. Oh, he's been cancelled by UK TV. For having an opinion. I agree with him. It's good to talk. Sadly conversations are getting closed down. Well done Le Tiss.

It is still causing some trouble in So Cal. Masks are not being required, but there has been word that in the event numbers of cases increase, masklessness will be reevaluated.
I have relaxed a little, but not much. There are too many people who are coughing and sneezing my way and not containing their spray dispersal.

They manipulate understandable frustration for their stated goal of violent destruction of public education, public health, religions other than their interpretation of Christianity, gay and women's rights (abortion) and voting rights. Maybe all your thugs are content with beating people up after soccer games. OURS HAVE GUNS!

Well you have your leader of choice now. Let's see how that goes. All I've heard is suggestions that you have to be 18 or 21 before you can buy an automatic weapon. Yep I'll take my chance with football hooligans. You guys are fucked up. And no President of any persuasion has the apitite to fix the gun thing. It's a vote loser, and that is why they are all snakes. Good luck and nice to see you back on here.

I don't think that a president of the liberal persuasion would lack the apitite (tein) to fix the gun issue. The problem is that the Second Amendment needs to repealed, and that will never happen, owing to our reverence of and the shortsightedness of our founding fathers. Apparently they couldn't imagine a scenario where some states would house most of the population, while others would house very few, but all of the states had to have equal power when it comes to amending the Constitution. We are sadly at the mercy of the red states that will not relinquish any of their guns under any circumstances, including the murder of their children while attending school. The blame lies squarely with those who proudly put an R after their names.

I'm glad we don't have guns over here. It would be so tempting to off myself after a bad day/week/month/year. Why am I now thinking about Friends?

In late summer 2021, during the Delta wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation issued a disturbing wake-up call: According to its calculations, more than 11 million Americans were already experiencing long COVID. The academy’s dashboard has been updated daily ever since, and now pegs that number at 25 million. Even this may be a major undercount. The dashboard calculation assumes that 30 percent of COVID patients will develop lasting symptoms, then applies that rate to the 85 million confirmed cases on the books. Many infections are not reported, though, and blood antibody tests suggest that 187 million Americans had gotten the virus by February 2022. (Many more have been infected since.) If the same proportion of chronic illness holds, the country should now have at least 56 million long-COVID patients. That’s one for every six Americans. www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2022/06/long-covid-chronic-illness-disability/661285/

I'd love to know the stats for impaired mental health during covid. The number must be huge but unfortunately uncountable. Lots of people don't seek help and out of those who do few receive it.

So long covid is the same as acne in numbers. So it's just another thing we deal with. No use hanging on to covid. It happened like all sorts of other things happened and will happen again. It's the holding on to it and not letting go because it all consumed us for two years that is the big problem. And leads into my mental health post. I see people driving in a car alone wearing a mask. They are in too deep and won't let go. We need to move on. This is becoming the new climate change issue. We can't address it sensibly because we can't get over the doom and gloom headlines. We need to move on responsibly and leave the clickbait behind.
