A friend of mine owns a pharmacy, and he thinks I should be able to get vaccinated next week. I'm going to check my work schedule to make sure, but I think next Wednesday is the target date.

Make sure you are very quiet at the pharmacy, otherwise you'll wake up the sleeping pills.

I swear I wrote something last month about the government (my employer) having its civil servants go back to work at the office every second day when the pandemic was under control, as a transitionary precaution, but it seems to have vanished into the ether. Is that possible, Ned? I've searched my own messages, but couldn't find it.
Anyway, I wanted to say that our 13-member team, after realising that morale was getting low, had a Happy Hour at 3 o'clock on MS Teams, this Friday. We all showed up with a bottle of beer, a glass of wine, a tumbler of rum-and-coke and shot the breeze for 90 minutes. Kids, babies and pets were trotted out in front of the webcam, because we hadn't seen much of them in over a year. In the summer and fall of 2020, we met about once a month on Zoom from 10 to 11 to chat and play games, like online Family Feud, karaoke, Guess that Tune, Win Lose or Draw... But when we finally acquired the secure tools and platforms needed to hold our sensitive national workshops virtually, we went into overdrive and spent the next six months frantically catching up on everything that had been pushed back because of Covid. Due to the resulting compressed schedule, we don't expect a breather until 2022, but we need some sort of periodic group contact/hug to lighten the stress.
As a group, most of us have known one another and our children/partners for 10-15 years, and we sorely miss each other's company. As individuals, we just all get along so well. We have an elaborate Christmas party every December 24 with games for the children, homemade food and gift swaps; periodic team bonding activities (potlucks, picnics, restaurants, sports); office birthday parties... We know each other's home life in great detail - the joys and the sorrows -, and colleagues who become close friends are, with their family, frequent dinner guests and companions on outings.
Apparently, our close-knit group is the exception in government, where colleagues are usually reserved, indifferent or worse: mean and/or competitive. The team I was with from 2015 to 2020, working on a national project, was friendly, though not overly warm. (That may have been, I admit, a function of my teleworking four days a week during that time, on doctor's orders.) In any case, I jumped at the chance to return where I am now, but the pandemic sent us home the week after I came back, lol.
As a long-time single parent, I've had next to no social life since 2014. I worked at home year in, year out, and spent evenings and weekends doing all the chores and the shopping while taking care of my children's physical and emotional needs. Now that they're older and more mature, I can leave them alone at home while I commute to work, attend a show, go to the auto mechanic's and the supermarket, take a walk in the woods... I can even ask them to make their own dinners every once in a while. This newfound freedom, interrupted by Covid, is something I can't wait to take advantage of -- and it begins at the office, in the company of friends.

I'd be happy if I never clapped eyes on my co-workers again.

It's the big double event, I get shot 2 and my wife gets her first, today at the fair grounds. No funnel cake though.

It's the big double event, I get shot 2 and my wife gets her first, today at the fair grounds. No funnel cake though. That is good news! (Not about the funnel cake, but at least you won't inhale any powdered sugar. Not fun.) I have heard a very few people speak of the second vaccine of two made them shivery, headachy, the typical symptoms of flu, but these never lasted past 24 hours. May your symptoms be slight and your and your wife's reactions be over quickly! I get my first vaccine April 1st. If I can find the place no later than 15 minutes after my appointment. It is at a convention center not far from my home. Finntrovertigo I hope you got started on your vaccines! Terra Incognita Incognita I wish I could work at your place of employment! I had friends like that at work a long time ago, but not recently. I agree, single parents need to be further up the vaccine ladder than the bottom rung. Right after front line workers, I'd say. However, if you are a 10th level person, you must have good health, youth and fitness on your side. All plusses, I'd say! donavan have you received any antivirus shots, yet? Why can't we have our antivirus stuff in a sugar cube like the anti-polio doses we got a bazillion years ago? I am thinking you can freeze sugar cubes.

My arm is way more sore than it was for shot 1, but otherwise I feel fine. Having my wife start her vaccinations is also a great relief. It was really crowded and took 2 hours, but that is a good thing (more shots in arms.) In two weeks and I'm good to go, but will observe masking and distancing for the time being.
April 1st is almost here! I hope you don't have an adverse reaction Mare.

I was perfectly fine after my jab. Not even a sore arm. Although with my various ailments I'm like a bit of a pincushion anyway 😜

Good to hear, miles! Glad su esposa got started with her vaccines, too! Thank you for your wishes of my getting through this process without major issues. Yes, masks will probably be a part of my future, too. (There will no doubt be another boom in covid cases in about 5-7 days, thank you effing Spring Breakers!) I got a text this morning from my health care provider...they didn't forget about me! I was able to make an appointment through them, also on April 1. I have cancelled the County appointment and have been coached: drink lots of water the day before and the day of appointment, keep arm relaxed, don't tense up at injection time, take Tylenol afterward. I feel nervous, anyway. I don't like getting stabbed.

Welp, the first vaccine is written on the little card, along with a future date for more such activity. This would be a good song of the day if I hadn't already posted the Joe Walsh tune...

Me and Mr. Sooz got our shot on the weekend; AstraZeneca. Neither of us has grown a tail. Feel fine but ended up with a sore arm for about 24 hours. Nothing else. In Canada, they are making us wait lengthy amounts of time before the second shot. We don't go back until July 8th.
