It runs contrary to most anime fans, but I'm not a gamer at all, so I guess this doesn't affect me much. Less so when I read of his politics. So many wonderful artists die young in Japan thanks largely to a culture of smoking and drinking, he did well to get to 90. I sometimes watch Youtube videos of this one vinyl collector (now becoming a record store owner/operator - I believe in Portland) who loves buying gaming soundtracks on vinyl. Apparently there's actually a somewhat healthy (quality) bootleg market for gaming soundtracks. I figured you do have general knowledge of Japanese pop culture through your experience of Manga, film and anime. (You knew about that film I saw where a bunch of kids had to play weaponry to the death to get to go home from school. Gory but reminded me of Lord of the Flies. Kids reduced to primal kill or be killed level.) Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should even bring his passing up when I read about some of his political points of view...I decided that I could separate the music from the politics and wish him peaceful rest. (I felt the same way recommending Bits and Pieces- should I or shouldn't I. I would feel much better recommending it if someone else played the part of the butcher in the film.) Dang! Vinyl game soundtracks! How awesome is that. The fact that there are bootlegs makes it even better! I would be getting dinner ready or sweeping up afterward and I could tell what level my son was on by the music. If there was new music, I had to go see what was going on...Sonic The Hedgehog had some great music that got me dancing around. I think Sonic Spinball was pretty peppy.

Lyricist and composer Leslie Bricusse. Among his accomplishments was writing the lyrics for 2 James Bond Films. I have long been fond of his song from the play Stop The World I Want To Get off, Feeling Good, especially Traffic's live version

Easy to say as 39-year-old who is only half way there.

I'll chalk that up to over-imbibing on Don Day.

He was my favorite Monkee. Cool, not over the top like Micky. And then there was one. They just finished their final tour.
One cool bit of trivia, his song "Mary, Mary" was covered by the Butterfield Blues Band on the classic East-West album.

miles Mike was my favorite, too. Mostly because he was a real songwriter and musician, but a little because he was from Texas. "Mary Mary" is a great song. I like this one. I am glad we have his music by which we can remember him. I was always glad he didn't cash in on the Monkees at a later date like the others did. I heard long ago that his mom invented White Out and so he was an heir of her estate.
