I was told that if I worked hard I can be anything I want to be. Well Iโm still not an Elephant.

I was told that if I worked hard I can be anything I want to be. Well Iโm still not an Elephant. Probably for the best, lest someone shoot you in their pajamas.

An "intelligent" person, knows that they do not know everything. That's why learning should be a lifelong quest. I know I am stupid in certain areas. But I don't THINK I KNOW all the things I don't know. Too many think specific knowledge in one area means they are smart about everything. Or if they have a successful business, they should run the country.
A good example was Shockley. He was brilliant in electronics and won the Nobel prize for his co-discovery of the transistor. Then he spent years trying to prove that blacks were inferior to whites, less intelligent etc. He was not equipped for this bogus theory with any true data, he just knew it must be true and looked for anything that would support it. See previous paragraph.

We live in the era of smart phones and stupid people.

My landline is really dumb, but it doesn't fit in my pocket. It knows its place.

My smartypantsphone is as stubborn as I am. Before I went through the whole settings section and turned Siri (ask her questions or dictate if you wish, but she's always listening if you switch her on) off and now I can hold my own with the phone-we are basically at a stalemate.

I have the equivalent switched off but when you open your phone all adverts are aimed at what you have been talking about.
Now I lay me down to sleep Knowing that your lenses peep And now I eat my daily bread And into the tape spool I'll be fed
A twenty-four hour unblinking watch.

And they are listening to everything you say and think. Have you read Ira Levin's novel Sliver published in the early 1990s? On a par with Orwell's Big Brother, but not in a governmental sense. The movie version was NOT as good as the novel.

Never heard of Sliver. Sounds interesting.

Ira Levin also wrote Rosemary's Baby, The Stepford Wives, and The Boys From Brazil. Additionally, he wrote Kiss Before Dying but I haven't read that one. I had a class in which Rosemary's Baby was part of the course work my first Quarter of college and that got me started reading Levin's novels. I like the ones I've read.
