Two in Florida, imagine that.
It's amazing how that nastiest deniers I've seen in Florida are seniors. Just yesterday I was going into a Sam's Club and, as I was entering, this old guy shoves his cart as hard as he can at the welcomers when they asked him if he could please wear a mask.
That kind of abusive behavior might be curtailed by issuing tickets, but not enough police to cover that possibility. Is Sam's Club proactive enough to react like the airlines that have banned people for nutsy cuckoo behavior? At least put them on a year's time out? When I lived at a 55+ old folks home, I found that I was in the company of a bunch of Grinches. A lot of the drivers were reckless in the narrow lanes between the garages with blind corners without mirrors. They were pretty mean to me, too. Some of the women hated me. Really vicious people. Sam's Club needs a bouncer. When Ted Nugent got CoVID-19 and spoke out in favor of vaccinations, my fingers were crossed that his words would do some good. Not with the older crowd, I guess.

To be honest over here since restrictions were dropped hardly anyone wears a mask. Even most shop workers don't bother. It's all pretty chilled and no one pressures anyone to do anything.

Dropping the restrictions and the governor outlawing counties or cities from instituting their own mandates is the problem. The only ones that can try to enforce masking are the stores themselves. But these people start yelling "The state says we don't have to!"
Meanwhile, Florida recently hit the highest weekly Covid death toll since the epidemic started.
Schools aren't having it though. more than half the schools in Florida are doing mask mandates for students and employees in direct opposition to Governor Deathsantis.
Plus D'Satantits is fundraising off his opposition of science, actually printing t-shirts that say "Don't Fauci our Florida"

Non medical masks that most people wear make almost no difference. Masks are there mostly to stop you passing it on, not getting it. You can get it through your eyes. No one talks about that. I test myself twice a week. And always carry a mask and choose when to wear it. This hate on people who don't wear masks is misplaced. I'm not anti vaccination, I'm doubled jabbed. But I am pro choice.

Really hope there's either something akin to karma and a special place in hell. It's not just about one selfish dumbfuck self it's about not infecting others or permitting a continual existence of the virus to permit mutation into a variant not protected against. I make no apologies for wishing all the stubborn fucks without medical needs preventing their participation in the methods that would help not just themselves but everyone else (big surprise the universe isn't just you shitfuck magoo) would disappear to the cornfields. I'm not going to stay here and argue this so comment all you want you won't get me wasting my time. Try having had an immunocompromised family member or potentially being one yourself/and or other serious underlying health conditions and then see how charitable to these greedy scumbag fucks you feel.

blue, I have skin cancer, arthritis and heart disease. And my prostate is fucked. People call me Lucky 😀 Stop hating on people. Look at the bigger picture and the fuckwits that control us. Over here people can't get treated for all my conditions including me and people are dying. Covid is well down on the list of what people are dying of. Yeah?

donavan, I heard about the eye contagion a couple days ago. It made me glad I wear glasses and hopeful that deflects some of the germs. I still wear a mask since I breathe through my mouth. It helps me on smoky fire days, smoggy days and keeps me from inhaling all number of germs. (There is also the various pipe/cigarette smoke and other people's B.O. that I don't have to smell. There's a big plus.) I am down with continuing to wear a mask because I have two small grandchildren and a sister and her daughter who are immunocompromised. The less crap I breathe in out there in the world, the less crap I will ingest and pass to my loved ones. Also, I do not want to endanger my unvaccinated friends who believe they, too should have a choice about how they live their lives. One said that if she gets CoVID-19 or a variant and dies, then her Higher Power wants her to go and it is meant to be. I decided I respect her choice, but it was really hard for me to accept. I felt awful when we had a big blow out about it last week. What is more important, the relationship or the issue? For me, in this case, it is the relationship. We apologized to each other and now accept that there has to be acknowledgment that we both believe in our choices and let it be.

And that's all good. Can we talk about Flu and Pneumonia that is currently killing about about two times more people over here than Covid is. And nobody mentions it? Heart disease four times more. Perspective is all I ask for.

Most people over here are double jabbed and boosters are being rolled out shortly for vulnerable people like myself. We are never going to beat a pandemic so need to learn to live with it. But mostly we need to get back to treating people with all other manner of illnesses. Because if we don't that will be far more deadly than Covid ever will be.

If things happened in the UK like they did in the US, chances are you have not met anyone who had the flu last year. Masks and distancing provided some protection against Covid but all but wiped out the 2020 seasonal Flu. Yeah, Not a single case of flu detected by Public Health England this year as Covid restrictions suppress virusReally hoping that that fact gets around, so people realize that, if you don't like getting or spreading the flu, we were given the best solution. We should, like Asian countries already do, mask up when you start having cold/flu symptoms.

If you wear a non medical mask or just a scarf it makes little difference. I mostly wear a mask but I am aware it only adds a very small amount of protection. Perhaps still worth it. If we all hide away in our houses like we have been doing, of course cases of flu and almost everything will fall. But we can't go on living like that. We already have a mental health crisis because of lockdowns and loneliness and fear. With so many vaccinated we need to hit a balance. We can all pull stats out to prove our points. But it's the hidden damage, the hidden stats that we need to address.

I remember looking at the stats comparing deaths due to influenza vs. Covid-19 deaths-might have been in 2020 or even in early 2021. The numbers were high for each, but I could foresee the CoVID-19 number increasing at a faster rate, since nobody was vaccinated at that time. Either way, you have to take care of yourself, especially if others are dependent upon you.
I think hand washing and keeping your hands away from your face combined with mask wearing combine to be pretty helpful in protecting yourself. We're about to head into Flu Season, and I think we should be able to go out and use our PPE and just plain healthy habits once we find out what kind of impact Back To School has had on the population of young students and their Teachers and those who they interact with on campus and in transit.
Yeah, I want a Pneumonia shot, a Flu shot, a Booster Moderna shot and a danged Shingles shot. Sign me up.
I have forgotten what percentage of complete vaccination rate Dr. Fauci indicated would indicate the general population could be considered as having herd immunity. He talked about it at a press conference last year, when vaccines were about to be approved for emergency usage. I was probably already thinking about travelers from other countries and people who illegally enter the country, large gatherings, etc. Whatever the number actually was, I thought it was pretty low. But then again, he's the expert that has been doing this work since the 80s, and I am just a person with OCD who has triggers of germs and bugs. I want all the information I can get.
Yes, cancer, heart disease, mental illness, influenza and many other conditions like the burgeoning amount of Diabetes and other weight related problems all need attention. The one who has to choose where the focus goes and who gets the research money has to be knowledgable, ethical and patient-about everything!!!
