Roll on February. Hopefully things will start to calm down.

donavan, thank you for sharing your deeply moving and what sounds like incredibly painful life experiences. Your being that frank and open about your personal depth of scope with us here and the trust you have in us is a gift not often given and I will hold it in my heart until I pass. Much love. longinglook will you marry me or at least be my roommate? I envision many heated conversations and probably some marches and placards along with loud music and good food and times. miles as always, I value all you say and do wish we lived closer. You talented genius, you! Introvertigroo I know my grammar has been shitty for a very long time. Extremely bad, extremely long time. I type as I would speak, edit as I can not unsay things. Some things get goofed up, as a result. Other times, I forget I have a filter. Some things are hard for me to bring up, and usually wind up in the "Reason For Editing" bit in teeny font. I apologize for that. My voice on those awkward to speak about those things is just as teeny as the font. Nonsuch Ned Thank you so much for maintaining this site, wrangling all of us kittens and feeding us with patience like no other. To all friends absent but peeping, I miss you all and want you back. You are valuable to the Back Porch and most especially to me. Come home, please. Or not...perhaps I have been too strident at times, but I long to reconnect. It is wrong for me to want you to do what is right for me, though. Choose what makes you best pleased. I understand that you already may have done that. See what Trump has given us? I have been grinding my teeth and yelling at the television for more than four years...but together we learn , together we feel, together we heal and sometimes we move on together.

I think the the last 4 years and especially 2020, have tested the axiom, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. The Covid long haulers probably wouldn't agree. I think many of us will be more appreciate of what we have, the calmer horizon before us, etc, perhaps wiser if not stronger.

I would prefer not to test that axiom any further, miles...I think what doesn't kill you physically can kill you inside: make you bitter, depressed, untrusting. I've had enough of that shit. Aside from that, my ex-mother-in-law used to say that, as if she was a brilliant philosopher. Best to leave that stuff flushed down the poddy.

Yes, years before people got their whacked out ideas from the internet, they got them from relatives
I think the origins of this belief is in the Hero's Journey. Wiki summarizes it:
In narratology and comparative mythology, the hero's journey, or the monomyth, is the common template of stories that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home changed or transformed.
Jesus went into the desert, Buddha sat and meditated without food or water. We like our western tough guys who suffer, but ultimately defeat their foe, slay the dragon etc. So the mystical transformation is reduced to "stronger."

Greek mythology had Hero, a priestess. Jason sought his Golden Fleece and ran into a whole lot of trouble along the way. I think some Shakespearian characters go on searches or quests-some literal and others figurative. My recent quests have been for toilet paper and paper towels, and rather unremarkable. Today, I got both when I wasn't looking for them. The change in me is your basic relief. Stress reduction achieved. I'm thinking that if wifi and cable go down, I may have to go on a quest for something to read. Chances are better that I will go on a quest to see if my neighbors' cable is out, too.

Oh, yeah...and Trump golfs on. The Senate nixes the Congress' bigger Virus Game Bonus, as per usual.
I noted some news blip that Trump was pissed off that the media hasn't paid enough attention to Milania's Fashionable Garb. I'm thinking Milania's only Smithsonian contribution will be that coat where she attached a sign that pretty much said up yours Idiot Husband. That one I liked.

One of the cliches I won't miss hearing is "saying the quiet part out loud." But if you ever needed a perfect example of that, her coat said it REAL loud.

I also liked when she pulled her hand away, after he tried to hold hands, when they were on a dais with the Macrons. We can just call him The Orange Filterless One.

"I showed you I was dangerous and unhinged, why didn't you believe me?"
All of those "patriots" that documented their felonies on the internet in real time, are likely to regret it. There's a new sheriff coming to town, the one who prosecuted the Oklahoma City bomber. You do know all those cell phones you carry are tracking devices, don't you? And that there were cameras everywhere in the Capitol snapping pics of your maskless faces. Maybe you better chill for awhile. Or turn yourselves in.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Full immunity from Donald J. Trump will require two doses of impeachment, Dr. Anthony Fauci has advised.
“One impeachment was a good start, but it didn’t get it done,” the esteemed virologist said. “If you want to keep this terrible situation from coming back, you’re gonna need that second dose.”
