Time was, a family vacation, holiday, road trip, or what have you would include a visit to a meaningful or meaningless place. Pictures were taken, souvenirs bought and stories and memories were created. With the internet being what it is, a recent search for something completely different led me to these fellows: I give you Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, famous residents of Bemidji, Minnesota. Growing up, it was nearly a rite of family passage to make the trip 'up North' to visit these two and then travel to Itasca State Park and walk across the headwaters of the Mississippi River. -------------- What are some of the attractions, monuments or tourist traps you've visited?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_HuskissonThe Huskisson Memorial The Huskisson Memorial is on south side of the railway, in a cutting, 60m from Parkside Road. It was put up in 1831 and is made from painted stone. It was put here in memory of W. Huskisson, Liberal M.P. for Liverpool who was killed here, by a train, during the opening celebrations of the Liverpool and Manchester railway in 1830.

donavan, your clever remark about the pencil museum aside, it would be an interesting place to visit. After visiting the website I learned how pencils were first made and that the company is the maker of Derwent pencils -cool! Suzi, the Screaming Heads are amazing!

Suzi, the Screaming Heads are amazing! Yes, they are amazing !! You can walk about; are allowed to take pictures, touch or sit on them. Whatever you like. They are certainly meant to be enjoyed in an interactive sort of way !!

There are screaming heads at this Midlothian too but regrettably they have Scottish children attached to them and they are usually mine. A tour (if it was the same one) would be lovely, thank you.

That's quite beautiful, donavan. I saw photographs from the Tower of London exhibit and it would be a wonderful thing to experience. Good for you that you will have that chance.

The oldest building remaining in my hometown It looks much less scenic when the camera pans slightly left to reveal the Rite-Aid whose owners tried to demolish the building for a parking lot. Ah, capitalism.
