Does anyone really understand it? I mean really really? My son plays youth football and last season I ran the line a lot as volunteer parents have to (trained refs though). The interpretation of the rule varied widely. The worst was the guy who flagged anytime one of our forwards got the ball irrespective of where they were relative to opposition players. I remonstrated with him and he threatened to deck me. We still won though as the referee stood him down at half time.I flag if the kid receiving the ball is ahead of the last defender (when it's played - when I can spot that). I guess that's not going to be 100% correct but I don't really understand the current rule either.

First phase, second phase, interfering not interfering, which part of the body counts towards being offside etc. A simple game turned into a nonsense. Mind, take rugby, either code, nobody understands many aspects of those games, especially Union. And don't get me started on LBW's.

of course the interpetation of the law changed this season... Although not all refs were aware, to Liverpool's benefit.

Indeed. I do have my doubts about refs. I remember years ago when we signed Jimmy Case. he kept getting booked and in an interview revealed.." I am doing nothing different than when I played for Liverpool. Its just they didnt book me when I played for them"

Man Utd not the formidable team of the fergie era. Had your goalie gone to real madrid and our left back hadnt been such a divot we could well have won that game.
Under fergie, not only was the quality of players higher, the tempo of the game was too. Attack, Attack Attack - relentlessly. You would tend to be undersiege. Under van gaal. Well, the 42 pass goal sums it up. Slow possession football. Mostly in your own half.
Roonie seemed lost inhis number 10 role. That said, discounting another example of refs not applying the new offside rule, you prbably warranted the win, although I think we gave it to you more than you took it.

So the slow, pedestrian, out of sorts, passing and possession obsessed team with the want away keeper won 3-2. Not too bad, I'd say. And away from home too.

Get ripped open through the middle by arsenal and Morgan is sat on the bench. What was van Gaal thinking Don. if you dont want him, we'll have him back!
And we fair thrashed Chelsea, even if I say so myslef

Don't rate Morgan from what I've watched so far along with a couple more of his signings. No defence, attacking wingers playing left and right back. We need two more solid defenders. That defeat has been on the cards for a while now. Enjoyed your game and the mad rant afterwards. Rodgers getting the sack took the heat off United's defeat.

Morgan wil not do anything to make you go wow. ever. But his is like invisible tape. certianly he would have stopped arsenal running lose and free like they did. He is a classic holding midfield player and a shield in front of the two centre halves.
To be fair, none of the players who recently left Saints have been a success at their new clubs. Lovren. Lallana, Lambert, Callum Chambers, etc etc. Clyne will do well. Shaw was getting there then boom! Like the titianic - never leave southampton
