Bikes on trains, why? Bloody nuisance.

I think that's pretty cool, especially if a longer distance is being covered. Are the bikes stored in a separate area/car? In my town the city buses have bikes racks on the front for commuters. It's a good way to get to the far flung areas that the bus route doesn't reach.

No facility on the 30 year old trains I travel on. Maybe room for say three bikes. Same with the airport train, no facility for luggage. So on a typical service you end up tripping over bikes and cases. Which I did this morning, hence the grumpy post.

I have noticed a highly disturbing trend lately of truck drivers who have a difficult time keeping their trucks in their own lane. In the last week or so, I have nearly been sideswiped multiple times by truckers who want to drive in the center of the road, and of course they honk at me as if I am the one to blame. As Abraham Lincoln famously said, "Jesus fucking Christ."

Be safe out there, Introvertigo.
This week I broke out the hat, scarf and gloves for my daily commute. Since it's so dark now in the early mornings I no longer bike the trails but stick to the residential streets. It's interesting to observe how people greet the day; lots of big screen televisions and computer screens.

...Since it's so dark now in the early mornings I no longer bike the trails but stick to the residential streets... is it too dark for you to see where you're going on an unlit trail? you should consider a proper light for your bicycle, maybe also a headlamp to wear (it will shine light in the direction you're looking). those are good investments. i figure you're already okay with looking goofy. it's dark enough here in the mornings to have gotten out my full array of lights. cool enough for full-finger gloves, no hat yet, never a scarf (prefer something turtle-necked that can be easily zipped down in case of too much warmth).

You're right, cicadashell, a proper light or headlamp would do the trick. Many of the other early morning folks I encounter use them. I'm a late adapter. In other biking news, after weeks of cloudiness, the sky has cleared and the morning constellations are visible again. A sure sign that winter is on its way; Orion is rising on the southern horizon.

During the course of a long and bumpy bicycle ride over the weekend, I lost my rear bike light. So this morning I went to the bike shop to replace it and ended up purchasing, not only a brighter rear light, but a new, high power, front light as well. Thanks, cicadashell, for prompting me to make the investment. I'll be testing out the new lights this evening.

The new bike lights are working a treat. The big, bright front lamp makes the potholes much more visible. The temperature has been far above normal so late in the year (what climate change?), I'm still bicycling to work. A little chilly in the early morning but nothing a pair of long johns and some mittens won't fix. I don't see many bicyclists now but still a few runners and dog walkers.

On the Eccles train. Freezing. Engineering works everywhere. And the toilets are out of order. It must be Christmas!
