Do you travel across town or down the hallway at home to get to work? Tell us a bit about your commute and snap a photo is you are so inclined.

I live just a few blocks from my workplace so I either bicycle or walk. From April to October as soon as there is daylight I bicycle (weather permitting) using different routes of about 5 miles or so. It's a great way to start the day and I enjoy the sights and sounds and smells of the early morning. Here's a photo of a new trail I've been enjoying this past week - this is 6am this morning. Lots of birds, frogs, turtles and rabbits along the way and, if I'm very lucky, maybe a fox.

Bus, train then bus or train. With a mile or so walking thrown in for good measure. Not good, in fact grim.

I live a 20 minute walk from the railway station but usually get a lift from my wife who goes that way on route to her work. The train service into London is very good, very frequent and usually takes 30 minutes. I can then either walk for 25 minutes or get the 521 bus to Holborn. Which is also very good and very frequent. Except yesterday when a tube strike in London meant utter gridlock and I walked both ways. In the main I'm pretty lucky with my commute.

Lostjockey, is your commute affected by the Crossrail project? I'm a bit of a geek about engineering and construction and have been following the progress of this massive undertaking, enjoying the voyeur aspect of watching the orchestrated chaos from a distance.

Crossrail has no effect today, peggs, but my office may be moving East to Canary Wharf sometime in the next few years and that's a Crossrail station so I may get to use it. I only have to walk five minutes from my current office to get to Farringdon Station which is part of the project and is one huge building site at the moment. And if I venture West in the direction of Oxford Street I get to Tottenham Court Road which is probably the area most affected by the construction. Actually it's a bloody mess.

I'm stuck on the train now waiting for a slot at Lime Street. These new 30 year old electric trains are about as good as it gets. Next I'll be on an old London double decker bus. The Northern power house, eh?

Yes I bet I do. In fact I sometimes get the 17.48 (you know you've commuted too long when you know all the bloody train times) home in the evenings.

At the vineyard I'm currently working at, 7-10 minutes to drive to a couple of the sites and 15 to the other. I can see them from my doorstep.

That's a beautiful church, Mr. Tein. Have you ever stopped by and had a look around? Alas, in regard to the mill, progress for the sake of the almighty currency of your choosing knows no bounds. You could also randomly wave at passing trains and maybe lostjockey would see you. Or maybe passengers would just think, "ooh, isn't he an odd duck?" chrisb, your commute sounds rather nice - short and sweet with a glass of wine at the end of the road. Rural or urban, auto, train, bicycle or feet, commutes are what you make of them. Oh dear, I'm sounding a bit too Pollyanna at the moment. I need to go take a cranky pill or something.
