California indoor mask mandate starts today. I think it goes until sometime in January 2022. We have had one in OR for months. Where we live, people do follow it, but when you get away from the cities, not so much.
I think people should be very careful about lowering their guard with a new, much more contagious variant. I am afraid too many are going to grandma's for Xmas, even if it kills her.

With a new, much more contagious variant that so far causes mild or no symptoms at all. And if grandma wants them there then it's her choice. And so it should be.

With a new, much more contagious variant that so far causes mild or no symptoms at all. And if grandma wants them there then it's her choice. And so it should be. Well, a more contagious variant that is milder and vaccinated grannies should bring us closer to Herd Immunity. I was just in Barnes & Noble a little while ago. A guy without a mask on was standing two feet behind/beside me. I am usually tempted to call people on it, but I usually just snarl and scowl, which they can't see much of because I am wearing my mask. There is probably judgy eyebrow action going on, though. miles, we had masks inside until not too long ago, were released from that, but I only relaxed from that one time and that didn't go too well. At least I had no consequences and learned how to correctly swab my nose in the process of testing.

At the beginning of this Covid thing we were discouraged from wearing masks. The science being Covid particles are so tiny they can penetrate the type of mask or scarf most people wear. Also the constant readjusting of your mask means you are constantly touching your face which can lead to infection. Also a mask gets damp which harbours germs. The official line was don't wear a mask it can increase your chance of getting Covid. None of that science has changed but mask wearing is now mandatory on public transport and in indoor retail. So I can go to town on the bus with my mask on and do my shopping with my mask on then take it off and go into the pub with no requirement to wear one at all. No mandatory table service, I can stand at a packed bar shoulder to shoulder waiting to be served mask free. The whole thing is nuts. And masks make no difference and can actually make things worse. Because the scientists said so. So wear a mask. How did it come to this?

As I understand it, the no masking requirement at the beginning of the pandemic, was because of the shortage of PPE for hospital workers. If the general public bought up all the available masks, there would not be enough. It was a sort of triage, which looks worse devoid of context. But it was wrong, and when more evidence of airborne transmission was found, it was reversed. By then more masks were produced and available.
I think anyone who is unmasked in a pub is taking an unnecessary risk. I was not comfortable eating in public the 2 times we tried it, earlier in the year, when we had another of the temporary "it's all clear" dictates. As Introvertigo has noted, most people are assholes. A couple jammed themselves right next to us by moving a table. That was it.
Masks do make a difference, they are not a panacea.

My kids work in hospitals, believe me they don't wear the piece of shit masks we wear. There is a reason for that. But if you think it was a ruse by the establishment in the first instance then why are you so trusting of them now? My trust has evaporated amid the misinformation, mixed messaging, double standards and scaremongering. More than twice as many people died from cancer than they did from covid yesterday in the UK. We need to wake up. And one death over here so far from Omicron and we are not sure if he died of it or with it. In New Zealand the other day a man was shot dead in the street. He tested positive for covid as the emergency services tried to save him. Official cause of death: Coronavirus. Fucking madness.

So kick out all the covid patients clogging the hospitals for cancer patients? It is true many people put their medical issues on the back burner until it couldn't be ignored, and now are seriously ill. That won't be fixed by people "returning to normal" with the virus burning through the planet.

There's a car insurance commercial where a bunch of teenagers are trying to find a place to hide from some kind of psycho massacre and each place they go to is typical of horror films. It makes a mockery of both the films and culture.
Life is a nightmare for a lot of people and hysteria spreads widely on the Interweb. We all need to clean up our diets-foods and beverages in addition to what we watch and read on screens. Is there enough room for both open-mindedness and selectivity in my mind? How can you judge anything or anyone if you don't know everything and how do you stay sane if you don't stop watching the nightmare?
What is normal? What is real? Isn't that purely subjective, dependent upon an individual's experience?
Jimminy Christmas, am I ever having a day!

Boris has just given the thumbs up for us to drink wine at work after he got caught doing it with his buddies during no mixing restrictions. Oh hang on, update, he can, we can't. Fuck me. Wake up! Or are you only following orders. That never works out well, does it?

Don, a lot of us here are Americans. We get docked if take a water break. I would kill everybody in my immediate vicinity if I could take an alcohol break at work.

Thank you, Don. I do miss the sense of power from my time in office. And I have no idea where Merra is.

Or are you only following orders. That never works out well, does it? Agreed-Just following orders does not work out well...a mind of your own combined with a good conscience is what will work, albeit the more difficult path. Your kids work at hospitals? Now there's a pipeline to the truth. On this morning's local news, there was a piece consisting of live discussion with a doctor that is frequently consulted by the station. Dr. Rahul Jandial M.D., Ph.D. spoke this morning about cancer medical news for the year 2021. He is a neurosurgeon and scientist with City Of Hope, a pretty well known facility here in Southern California. He seemed pretty positive about the treatment of cancer here in the U.S. I was unable to find the clip online, to share with you, donavan. It may be too soon to look for it.
