The UK is set to see its hottest day on record today, with temperatures on Tuesday expected to reach up to 42C (107.6F). Glad for once that I live in Ohio--it's only 71 right now, and only supposed to hit a high of 86 later in the day.

Many parts of the UK are today counting the cost of the country's hottest day on record, with homes and businesses claimed by wildfires as temperatures topped 40C.
Flames ripped through homes as Britain was scorched by extreme heat and the country glimpsed what could be the new reality in the summer months.
A ring of fires in and around London saw a major incident declared in the capital, with people being evacuated and many taken to hospital.

I think I saw the movie Is it very different in plot from the book? I may have seen the film, but I don't remember, Bluey. I liked Bradbury a lot, and this is one that was written and brand new when I was a kid/teen so I was excited to read it. I remember liking it. (It is also part of a Shakespearian quotation and may be a folkloric saying, I dunno.)

We had a few cooler days: high 80s F) and now we're back to mid 90s F. Some nice overcast mornings. Today was like that. Ah, onshore winds. It is going to be in the 90s-very tolerable-until next Tuesday when it has been suggested by TV weatherpersons (some who are inappropriately dressed in what seems to me to be party dresses and others in club duds) that it will cool down and we will need sweatshirts. The very word sweatshirts coming out of the mouth of a guy in a suit with three buttons (bottom one unbuttoned and white shirt showing-what is that about?) tie and looking very neatly groomed is incongruous to me.
The weather is puzzling, the weatherpersons are puzzling, and thus I turn to The Weather Channel and watch weather that has nothing to do with where I am. Now, that makes sense.

Unless we have extremes of weather I really can't be arsed with weather forecasts.

Like sun without rain? First night of possible frost here, so plants in.

Any frost burn, bluedemon25? Not a lot of below freezing temps where I live...when I was a kid, the citrus orchards had smudge pots...not so many orchards around these days. The TV Weatherpersons warn when there will be temps below 32 degrees F so people can cover their frost/freeze sensitive plants. My friend had currant plants and cherry trees that aren't around anymore due to the opposite problem. First, they didn't set blossoms-not enough cold nights-so no fruit. They may have had issues with the heat in the Summer/Fall seasons.

As far as I can tell no major problem with the plants. The previous owner has hostas planted and I left them in ground since I like the pretty purple flowers which attract hummingbirds. I noticed last fall and this fall that the leaves go yellow and a bit brown before the leaves on trees do. I'm assuming that's a seasonal thing and expected and not a frost-related issue since it happened before yesterday night.

I wish it would get hot here. Putting the heating on is like burning £50 notes.
