My goodness, he's gone. I was traveling through the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) at noon today when his passing was announced on the local Public Radio station. I switched over to The Current where, for the rest of the day, Prince's music is being played (a beautiful and sorrowful live version of Purple Rain is playing as I type). While I long ago stopped actively listening to Prince's music I remained aware and appreciative of the influence he had on so many of the popular artists from across genres and around the world. RIP

Part II
It's been a day of Prince here in Minnesota (I'm visiting my hometown). Listening to the radio, watching Minneapolis television news, even the internet; all are paying a well deserved tribute to true musical genius. And I find myself a bit teary-eyed, not only for his passing but for the respect and admiration that people around the world are offering. And I have to admit, not paying much attention to Prince’s music for long time, I am hearing a lot of his music for the first time.
Seek out the song, 'My Name Is Prince' - DAMN!

Don't want to sound horrible and yes it's very sad, but it's all a bit over the top over here. People die unnoticed every day so people on the TV telling me how a celebrity death has knocked me for six is a bit hard to take. Not wanting to take away anything from Prince and his craft and the loss his close ones and fans must be feeling.

Wise words, donavan.
On the other hand, I believe that any person who can affect a spontaneous outpouring of love and good will deserves any accolades directed their way; whether that person touched one or a million lives. How that expression is broadcast to the world is pretty much beyond our control other than turning off or tuning out.
