This demo is so very different from the released song. But I really like it a lot also and the original is one of my favorites.

Song(s) of the Day is โA Taste of Honeyโ
Fell down an interesting rabbit hole when "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" was mentioned in a Facebook group. As I've never really cared, I never understood the timeline and provenance of "A Taste of Honey." I blindly believed it was a Herb Albert original and never got the connection with The Beatles songโฆ if there was one, they donโt sound alike to my ears, not that Iโve really paid attention to either. Herbโs song is a nice, neat, instrumental piece of its time. The Beatles track is one that would honestly get skipped if I was paying attention.
So, with a little wiki investigation, I discovered the first version of ATOH was composed by Bobby Scott for a movie of the same name. There are three renditions on the sountrack, a smooth string variation, a jazzier version with a small group, led by piano, and a slightly somber orchestral version that kind of mixes the two. The composition won a Grammy or two and the variations started. The first vocal version was written and arranged for a debut album for young vocalist who would soon start a decent career in Broadway and got a signature film role 20 years later. It takes after the orchestral versions, very smooth, fits with the vocal standards, like Gershwin tunes, on the rest of the album. The Beatles apparently liked it, and theirs is a cover of that vocal version, slightly rocked up. Herbโs โRecord of the Yearโ version came a couple years later (It beat out โYesterdayโ- because Grammys) and it takes after the jazzier version, which is why it seems so different.
That first vocal version was byโฆ.
Yes, Lando Calrissian does Nat King Cole
also found this, released around the same time as Herb's version. and nicely outdoes either vocal version.

Wow that's quite different and interesting. I hadn't heard those and I like this song. I agree that Chet Baker version is real neat. Totally different mood too, I feel. But I like it.

Soundtrack contribution. The other one is super boring sleepy music to me. This one is interesting though.
