I am feeling very proud of my late Uncle Milton today! I was contacted by the Detroit Institute of Art about giving them permission to include one of his photographs in an exhibition and book they are planning entitled The Art of American Dance. Here the photograph they want to use.

Yes, that's it! How did you make it work? No, don't try to explain, it will only make my head hurt. My Uncle Milton was a really cool guy. I miss him a lot.

Oh, the procrastination! Doing a bit of deep house cleaning today (while listening to The Power Pop Show podacst - thanks, Introvertigo). and got completely distracted by an old grad school notebook. I liked this bit of trivia I came across while paging through it: ...at the end of WWII, Russia awarded George Formby a metal as a hero of 'the little man against the struggle of adversity.' "when I'm cleaning windows" OK, enough of this goofing around on the computer - back to work!

You might also check out Jeff Shelton's other show, the 80s Underground. It is just as entertaining. www.facebook.com/80sUndergroundYou might also enjoy some of the bands he has been in, the Spinning Jennies, the Well Wishers, and Hot Nun. Sadly, his tunes can be tough to track down--a dearth of material on Youtube, and several of his cds out of print and hard to come by, but they are worth the effort of tracking down. You might try the Spinning Jennies greatest hits cd, Full Volume--it has most of their best tracks, and it was remastered (the early cds have some pretty crummy sound quality). Here is a self-description from their facebook page, in terms of who their influences were. Beatles, KISS, Sloan, Redd Kross, Jeff Spicoli, The Posies, The Who, Husker Du, Cheap Trick, Black Sabbath, Urge Overkill, Weezer, REM (pre-1989), Guided By Voices, Superdrag, XTC, ABBA

Introvertigo, I have indeed been listening to the 80s Underground show as well. Hearing some of the more obscure songs or the one hit wonders remind me of my radio DJ years of the mid-80s. -------------- Just finished a great hour of pilates/yoga mix (a slow recovery from a back injury) and feel ready to take on the world. Instead, I get to go to work on my day off and do quarterly inventory. yippee. On the plus side, I do get beer and pizza afterwards.

You know, if there were a way to combine the yoga with the beer and pizza, I might consider trying yoga.

President Obama visited my town today. I didn't get to see him or hear him speak but this marquee was a nice thing.

After 13 years of not owning an automobile, I am once again among the car owning class. It feels a bit odd. Good, but odd.

I haven't been driving for some time because of health reasons (no, not a ban) but I'm back driving shortly. Must admit, I'm a bit nervous. Although I've clocked up many miles over the years I take little pleasure from driving. Just a means of getting from A to B for me.

Good luck with getting back behind the wheel, donavan. I agree with you that driving isn't a wonderful pastime; just getting from here to there and back again, safely. Time was, I'd drive hundreds of miles at the drop of hat - ah, the folly of youth. Although the city I live in is not large, the traffic is pain in the butt. Thankfully I live within walking/biking distance to all of life's necessities. On the plus side, this morning I was able to go for a sunrise walk at a county park several miles from my home. Not an option without a car.
