I'm a bit late in remembering Pete Fountain. He may have been New Orleans' pride and joy but he was well loved and respected across the country, thanks to 1960's and 70's TV variety shows.

I just read that Gene Wilder has passed away, age 83, from Alzheimer's. I am not mourning his passing; I am remembering with gladness his talent and humor. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Silver Streak, Stir Crazy... (Willy Wonka was/is too creepy for me to watch, even now). Thank you Mr. Wilder.

Beans Every time I watch that scene I swear I'm not going to laugh again. Every time I watch that scene I end up crying with laughter. Boys, eh?

I didn't get the 'beans' reference at first.

I just came across this interview with Gene Wilder. He was such a soft spoken and unassuming man with immense talent. Select theaters across the country showed Blazing Saddles and Willy Wonka this weekend for $5. I'd forgotten how rude and funny Blazing Saddles was...and surreal, with the ending.

This weekend's Ryder Cup was one of the best I have watched, and it seemed a fitting tribute to one of golf's all-time greats, Arnold Palmer, who died last week.

Young Frankenstein is up in my top three films. Funny as f*ck I have it rated as number one. Apparently as a wee slip of a lad I could recite lines from the film before I even had much of a conception of what I was saying, as my parents watched the film constantly. Class tells.

You and my kids have something in common, especially if you can do the same with The Blues Brothers. Rest well, Mr. Wilder.
