I have see Cricket on Midsummer Murder Mystery reruns. There are sticks behind the batter that remind me of the handles of croquet mallets stuck into the ground and the person who is having their ups has a paddle borrowed from some bakery or boathouse. If the person throwing the ball, pitching we would say about baseball, gets it past the batter and knocks the potato off the croquet mallets, everybody goes batshit nuts. The outfield area looks similar to baseball, but I can't remember if there is any base running. There is also someone behind the sticks in ice hockey goaltender's pads and an umpire/referee behind that guy. I only have seen males playing this game. Everybody wears white clothing, so I guess they don't expect to do much sliding on the turf or in the dirt. I am not even sure if there is any running anywhere. Hey! Those rugby guys are hefty and don't wear any padding or helmets! They have been on a sports channel Saturday mornings, lately. They wad up facing this way and that way, looking like the people who hoist cheerleaders up to the top of those unnecessary cheerleader pyramids, when they are doing their tip off. Two teams, two separate wads. Rugby and Cricket seem to be polar opposites in the sports spectrum, the former all rowdy and the latter more staid and dignified. Except for that bowler-they have a running wind up that could work in baseball.

I am sure there is more to The Cricket and Rugby (Rugby seems like it doesn't need any articles to define it.) than that! For instance when is the season? Spring? Summer? Do kids sign up for local Cricket teams like Little League (baseball, AYSO (American Soccer/Everywhere else Football) and Pop Warner (American Football)? Does the refereeing/umpiring/judging/ ? seem biased toward certain teams? (American Ice Hockey-Boston Bruins, or so I was told.) I have seen the Footy stadiums...cram-packed full and lots of lovely singing for favored teams. Are the crowds as large for Rugby and The Cricket? donavan , you have spoken positively about Footy and Rugby...are there other Sports you like (oh, yeah...darts and knitting) or participate in as a hobby or contest?

Cricket/Rugby League - Spring into Summer. Yeah we have kids teams in and outside of school. Refs vary, good and bad. As do crowd numbers. Other sports I like - Fishing, pool and bingo. They keep me active. Watching sport on TV is another favourite of mine. Golf sucks and spoils a good walk.

Say golf sucks again and I will loudly proclaim that dart is not, never has been, and never will be a sport. I think you get the point.

Golf jokes again? A birdie told me golfers need a tight grip on their shaft or their balls can end up all wonky.

Say golf sucks again and I will loudly proclaim that dart is not, never has been, and never will be a sport. I think you get the point. Let's type really big about golf. I almost forgot about golf today, with the baseball and XFINITY Series race...then I remembered and was relieved to see R. Fowler had made it to the weekend. (He has not been as sharp as he was a few years ago.) I thought he was in seventeenth place, but then I saw the leader board and he was tied with a couple others for second.
Whoopa! Whoopa! Whoopa!
Looks like Rory is having a good day, too.
I fell in like with golf when I saw the landscaping at that GD Atlanta course where they have The Masters. The green jackets are gawdawful and the fact that women couldn't play at that gorgeous course until the last decade is majorly misogynistic. Pissed me right off. For a long time, I thought you had to play golf to like it. As with NASCAR, I learned about the golfers and their lives and families. Some golfers are assholes. Some are cry-babies. Some are both. Then, there are the nice golfers who are trying to make a living doing what they absolutely love. These golfers get pretty danged angry with themselves, sometimes and I feel a bit sad for them.

I agree, it sucks. You don't get that shit at Bingo.

Wasn't there some big to do about their special pimento cheese sandwiches and a vendor/recipe change? Seemed kind of ridiculous.

I agree, it sucks. You don't get that shit at Bingo. I didn't say it sucked. There are prima donnas in every sport, even in darts and bingo. I played Bingo with three other ladies (all older than me and I am old enough to play bingo and like it) and I won three games out of four. My friend Linda didn't care because she won the game that I didn't win. I didn't want the prizes anyway. The other two ladies made the bingo pit boss (First thing that came into my mind-what is their job title-resort associate?) check every single number called against my card. One game was very close, and I made it first calling out Bingo. Talk about hostile witnesses!

Golf clothes are amusing I made lemon curd for the first time. Cool, Bluey! Are you having scones? Golf clothes aren't fashionable, that's for sure. The old timey golf clothes worn for special occasions-St. Andrews, for instance-are cool. Basic golf clothes worn by PGA players in tournaments/championships are basic stretchy pants and polo shirts. At least what I see on TV are those types of garments. I don't know about fabric content, so I don't know how stretchy the clothes are. Comfort and freedom of movement seem to be the key needs. When you twist yourself into a pretzel, non-stretchy clothing would be a hindrance, I agree.
