Last night I saw Sylvan Esso, Belle & Sebastian and the Decemberists. Tonight: Trombone Shorty. Next week: Lake Street Dive. Wow. Sounds like a great show. I had just seen the Decemberists on TV in their capacity as Offa Rex and didn't realize they were touring as Decemberists right now. I once jokingly accused your son of stalking Colin Meloy from Montana to Portland, but it's nice that Meloy returns to his home state, even for a visit. While I really like the many Belle and Sebastian albums I have, I had thought they might not be as good live. if you ever have time, I'd appreciate a quick review of the whole concert. I've been thinking of John Wayne (& Jeff Bridges) these days as I'm reading True Grit.

Joey is still drumming with Trombone Shorty's band. I'm sure he was good. I won't expect a review, though.
I saw Alex McMurray play last night and I saw Greg Schatz and Alex play Friday night. I'm so predictable

The seven players constantly switch instruments and the vocals are very good. I like them better live than on their records! The Decemberists were the hometown favorites, of course. Good show. It was a two day festival and the Decemberists headlined both nights.

I'm so predictable Great show! And yeah, the drummers were very good, even Trombone Shorty! Very entertaining. I liked the show WAY more than I expected.

They are playing in Chicago Wednesday night but I don't think I can swing it.

But Neko Case called in sick that night.

Saw Primus and Clutch at an outdoor amphitheater Sunday night. It was LOUD and enthusiastic. Primus played the hits and few more obscure tunes. Ler was adventurous, the rhythm section relentless. Never heard of Clutch, they were good I guess, sounded somewhere between the Butthole Surfers and Monster Magnet.

Ahoy, mateys! I am so excited to learn the the Valpariso Men's Chorus will be playing at the Saturn Bar soon. Well, not till Oct. 20th actually, but there's no better way to celebrate the (almost) end of hurricane season!

Right from the The Straits of Saint Claude. You can kind of see them in this painting behind the bar.

I saw Steely Dan last night. My favorite Donald Fagen quote: "We could be a jam band - what's the problem? Anybody could be a fucking jam band!"

I just bought tickets to see Echo and the Bunnymen in Dec, at a small local theater here in Eugene.
