Dutch Uncles live is a real treat. Love them. Watch out for the singers dance moves! the new album is their best I think
Yeah I've seen them a couple of times and they are excellent. I got the new album and have listened to it twice but it's not quite gelling yet. Probably needs more of my attention.

I'm going to see Elvis Costello tomorrow! And I think there will be chairs for old people! Color me excited!
I'm also considering going to the local Rolling Stones tribute show Friday night at Tipitina's, (if I can convince myself that it's worth the high cover charge.)

Well, things got off to a bad start because my husband was sick and couldn't make it and I was a wee bit late arriving, but after those mishaps the show was great! No seats, though. The seat numbers on the tickets were a cruel hoax.
Mostly he played solo. Highlights for me were wonderful renditions of "Shipbuilding", "Shabby Doll", "Beyond Belief", and the all songs he did with his "surprise" guest star, Allen Toussaint. He wasn't much of a surprise, (since his very recognizable gold Rolls Royce was parked right outside the theater),but their set together was well-received by the hometown crowd. EC also talked about his dad, Ross McManus, a lot during the show and showed some old clips of him performing, (which I recommend checking out on youtube, if you've never seen them.)

Tomorrow night I am off to see Squarepusher. For the unititaited his music is a mix of drum and bass, acid house, jazz and electroacoustic music.

Just because it makes me happy to say it again, have y'all heard that Chaz Fest is back on this year? It's like Jazz Fest, but better! There was great rejoicing among certain segments of the Crescent City when this joyous news was released. chazfestival.com/index.htmlI'm only telling you because I love you. Don't spread it around too much or everybody will find out.

Not a lot going on for me gig wise at the moment. Got Dutch Uncles at KOKO some time but that's it for the moment. Tempted by the Blur show as Metronomy and The Horrors are supporting but I'm not sure I'm still up to standing in a field for six hours surrounded by drunken idiots. It's not the fun it used to be. Are you cathing up with Putner? - he asked if I was going but I am up in london for the everything everything gig the night before...

I will try to say hello to mags. My daughter will be at Everything Everything but I decided I'm too old for consecutive gigs.

The Robyn Hitchcock show was fantastic. We were in the second row center, ridiculously good seats. Emma Swift opened with country sad core, and she joined in on some of Robyn's numbers.
Set List: The Abyss The Wreck of the Arthur Lee The Museum of Sex Heaven Victorian Squid The Devil's Coachman You and Oblivion Trouble in Your Blood (new) San Francisco Patrol (also new) I'm Only You Queen Elvis Adventure Rocket Ship Visions of Johanna Pale Blue Eyes Ole Tarantula
Mr Tein, he is playing London on June 5th, maybe you can make it.

Hey Miles, great to hear from you again.
I saw Heaven on the Robyn Hitchcock playlist and I said to myself, "That's right, I've been hearing a Hitchcock cover of a Psychedelic Furs song." Then I remembered it was The Ghost in You not the Furs' song Heaven that Robyn covered. Silly me.
I think Hitchcock was my last concert in 2002 /2003 when he toured promoting the Dylan covers album. Either that concert or, coincidently, the Arthur Lee doing Forever Changes concert around the same time. Both concerts were at the Park West in Chicago. However, I thought I talked about that concert on the Forum, which I don't think I joined until February of 03 - I know I missed the Forum's beginning.

Hi Brian, nice to hear from you! I last saw Robyn in San Francisco in 2005. The Ghost in You is on the newest cd, first track. I didn't even realize it was from the Furs. The cd also has covers of To Turn You on by Brian Ferry, Don't Look Down by Grant Lee Phillips and The Crystal Ship by the Doors.
Mr Tein, her music was definitely country, but she grew up in a small town in Australia listening to Gram Parsons. She played one of his songs and one by the early Nick Cave band The Birthday Party along with her originals. The tempos were slow, the lyrics depressing, and she in fact described her music as sadcore. Emma has a fine voice and sang nice backup vocals for some of Robyn's songs, and took a verse on Pale Blue Eyes.

I think the last Hitchcock show I saw, was the same show(s) you saw Brian (try and say that sentence 10 times fast!). Or it may have been at Shubas. I have been completely blind to seeing shows of the last decade. I recently missed King Crimson come through Chicago - another late one for me.
But I wont miss WIRE this time. In fact I am going to travel all the way to Cleveland to see them (it doesn't look like they're coming through Chicago or Milwaukee this time around).
