Cool. cicadshell, did you take a left at that intersection? The route going forward looks chancy.

Cool. cicadshell, did you take a left at that intersection? The route going forward looks chancy. i keep going east on scio church road, actually (the same direction i am going on the sidewalk). is that what you meant? the edge of the road is in pretty bad condition at first, but it widens after a bit and eventually has a bike lane, if the rudely drawn markings are to be believed. the mere fact that i am on that sidewalk is an indication of how the crappy the roads are for riding in that particular area. pittsfield township is the worst ("the pits", if you will). still beats sitting in a car though.

They caught my niece walking down the driveway of my brother's house with a weedwacker, presumably to do some chores. It's an interesting picture. face blurred out, holding a lawn tool... sort of a mild horror film treatment. Beware the blurry faced tween girl! She's coming after you! and she can really bloody up your ankles!

Ned, I read, "They caught me twice walking down...". Then when I got to, "Beware the blurry faced tween girl...", I wondered if maybe you had been fooling us for all these years. Made me smile both ways.

I just noticed that you can still see previous street views. Click the date or something in that area of the page to scroll through urban development.

This picture must have been from awhile ago--the shrubs and evergreen in front of the house no longer exist.

Nice home, Intro! :-) Thanks for sharing. Seems like a nice neighbourhood, apart from the dogs, cats and firecracker c***s.

Did you move into that when you became mayor? Is it paid for by us forumers? And put some fences up.

I do like to use street views to "wander through" old neighborhoods. Se what's torn down and/or built. Like I happened on a story about a new building being built in Milwaukee that is planned to be the tallest building ever made with wood timbers instead of steel. But I couldn't get my head around where it was going to be, so I opened street view to figure it out. "...Oh yeah... that pizzeria I never saw anyone come out of... definitely not mob related."
Unfortunately, the small towns I grew up in never get updated. Kincheloe, Michigan has two updates, 2008, 2015. I'd really like to see an update because the prison in the middle of town was closed around 2015 and I really want to see that razor wire taken down and (hopefully) those buildings razed... but then. It would still be state land, owned by the Dept. of Corrections, so maybe they haven't done a thing there. I guess theymay always hold out the plan to reinforce the grounds and reopen eventually.
Oddly, they didn't drive down the side street I lived on during either tour. It would be interesting, but probably depressing, to see the old house. My parents were gardeners and the entire place was edged with flower beds and the back yard was a large vegetable garden. In an area no one else grew vegetable gardens.
[edit]
Hah!
Just looked it up using the satellite map, a little pin point now sits atop the garage, "Johnson's Services"- My old hose is now a business. Landscaping, I think. Still involved with flowerbeds, but now the yard is now covered with vehicles. Nice to see the trees my dad planted grew so tall... more landscaping equipment under them, I'm sure.
You can't go back home again, but maybe you can rent a riding lawn mower there.
(I guess it's possible that the business is just in the garage and the inside is still a house. My parents put a lot of work into converting the place from a duplex into a large single home.

Do you ever use the fireplace, Intro? Not for a long time--too much of a pain to collect firewood.
