Sorry miles I get what you say, with some reservations . But peaceful protest achieves nothing. And that was the question. So I stand by what I said. I don't agree. It is a positive example, and encourages others to question their assumptions. The results may not be dramatic, but that does not mean they are worthless. I have been in violent demonstrations that accomplished nothing. I understand rage, but about 50 white kids burned down 5 buildings here in Eugene. Was someone killed here? No. I am pretty sure the people that actually cared about racial injustice went home and didn't vandalize. There are social media posts of white kids looting restaurants and then burning them down. Fun and games. And some of these guys want to start a race war, some of them just want to burn our city down.
And then the actual message is lost, the moral stance eroded by provocatuers and nihilists. See, both sides are bad

In someone's else's Nonwhite perspective:
"I’m looking at some of the pictures today of some of these protests (Philly, Chicago, Salt Lake City)...protests which have already started to turn violent.
Look, I don’t know who the parents of all these white kids/young adults that want to pretend that they are protesting over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis but they are helping no one...and definitely not black folks.
And I’m going to be cynical enough to say this now…
These white kids have no “skin” in this game. Any backlash that comes will be visited on black folks and, perhaps, other communities of color…
Then again...maybe these young white adults are learning that their real actions have no real consequence for themselves...in other words, nothing has changed and nothing will be changing anytime soon...I am fed up with the bullshit now."
Peace

You may wish to revisit. And. I have been in peaceful demonstrations that always accomplished fuck all. What happened/happens is appalling. The worst thing we can do is stereotype people. That's how we got here in the first place.

I came back to edit as well, or just update. The businesses in town were looted and trashed, but not burned. A number of the remaining protesters tried to clean up some of the damage. More nuanced as usual. Important not to let a few idiots screw up a good thing.
Things just don't seem to change, or get worse. I'm past my days in the front lines. I wasn't into throwing rocks and breaking windows, but wasn't against it at the time, as we ran along the streets, trying not to get rounded up.

But we're neve gonna Survive, unless We get a little crazy - Seal.
I get your point about some people hijacking the situation for their own agenda. But this must not distract from the original issue. Although it sadly does. And maybe that's the point. I think we are largely on the same page here.

I've been back at work this weekend, and as far I know I am still Covid-free. Cough on wood.

A black demonstrator was interviewed amongst the disorder and burning buildings. She was asked, 'Is this helpful?' She replied, 'The prosperity of America was built by black people, so it's ours to burn down.' Well, two wrongs don't make a right. But it did get me thinking.

Very thought provoking, donavan. First, I thought-a whole lot of people built the United States. But that sounded like I was making excuses. Then, I thought-The Chinese and Irish built the railroads, but should they go tear up all the bridges and rails because they were taken advantage of? But that sounded like I thought I was better than. Then, I thought about the text convos I had with my kids and daughter-in-law about that what I was seeing on the many different cable news stations (US, England, Germany, Japan, South Korea) didn't come anywhere near the whole and accurate picture. Hadn't I been online-the videos were showing reporters shot in the face by rubber bullets! But, no I hadn't. Lots of thinking to do and lots of listening to the people who are talking.

I am watching the NBA for the first time in about four months. Let's see how long it takes to become a clusterfuck like what happened with MLB.

How long before Rollerball? In the film the year was 2018, so we are 2 years off schedule. Generic description:
The year is 2018 in a futuristic society where corporations have replaced countries. A violent futuristic game known as Rollerball is the recreational sport of the world, with teams representing various areas. One player, Jonathan E., fights for his personal freedom and threatens the corporate control.
We have corporate stadiums, but so far not the General Motors Pistons, or the ATT Bulls. I think there still are countries, hard to tell.
