I'd like to hear about any members' shows they saw that stand out as a favorite and why plus whatever you'd like to share you recall about it. I know some of you were lucky enough to see XTC, very cool. I'd be happy to hear about any more details that come to mind but this is a thread for any band you've seen and enjoyed. Can also include standup comic performances if you like.
I'll have to think to answer myself. For the period from around 1998 or 1999 to 2015 I did concerts rather than vacations and have many fond memories. My first show was Weird Al I think in 1996 or 97. The first concert I went to with family specifically because I instigated and nagged for tickets was around the same time , in I think 2000 for Steely Dan and The Who two different shows at the closest major arena. My music taste has almost never been in sync with people of my own generation but more the two previous. Other family priorities and medical issues made continuing to go less pleasant or easy but will on rare occasion still do so.

Never been much of a concertgoer, but I did get to see the Lollapalooza farewell tour of The Ramones.

My last concert was Bad Manners with Buster Bloodvessel. No idea how they made it pay. It was a free gig with ten band members and about five crew. It was very entertaining though. Lip up Fatty!

CARDIAC ARREST or THE CARDIACS, think probably the former, was another gig that blew me away. A former member of XTC forums loved this band.
Cardiacs were placed on indefinite hiatus following the 2008 hospitalisation of Tim Smith, after a cardiopulmonary arrest which subsequently led him to develop the rare neurological disorder dystonia. Smith continued to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation, before his death in July 2020, ending the band.

On the same day I watched Joe Cocker. OK but a bit boring. That all changed when Cardiacs finished the show. And again a free gig. And reasonably priced beer. Imagine that now. Happy days.

Hey, I would have liked to see Joe Cocker. Maybe just a casual fan but still it would have been neat to see live the major songs of his. Free gigs are such a rare entity now instead of arm, leg, some more limbs as usual ticket price. The way Ticketmaster pricing and live nation changed from when I started which was bad enough to thr past 10 years is unforgivably greedy fuckerism making so much barely affordable for worthwhile seats.

Since I'm unfamiliar maybe that's why it's not obvious to me, but sincerely, I'm glad you're sharing Don and Intro and I'd like to hear like in this case what made it such that it blew you away? Like for me sometimes its the decade plus waiting to finally see a favorite band (Genesis 2007 at Hartford and Boston or in 2000 seeing the Who my first and only time with The Ox still alive, or Roger Waters for DSOTM and The Wall shows or Van Halen and Boston or STP) and being immersed in the I can only think to say energy of mutual excitement and my own personal excitement to actually be present to see and hear rhe group live. I know Andy in that interview thinks its bollocks but it really makes a difference to me being there vs watching on disc or YouTube. Even if I've seen the band before (like I've seen Weird Al, Billy Joel, Elton John, and The Who each many times), it's still thrilling to me. Sure sometimes also the live song has more punch or energy or improv than the studio version. Not that I always prefer the live performance but it can be great. Sometimed its hearing a rarely played song or a special occassion (thinking 1999 new years into 2000 MSG Billy Joel for example or Eltons One Night Only with special guests also at MSG, or Bowie's last North Anmerican Tour show at PNC in Holmdel NJ where it was a great show, my only time seeing Bowie, and historically relevant for playing a sniper of his first single Liza Jane I think first time in 40 years it was). Radiohead for my first time seeing them had a physically entrancing beautiful stage lighting for the 2008 In Rainbows tour that I found mesmerizing for hearing maybe my all time favorite Planet Telex). I've almost always gone to shows with either a friend or whomever was my bf at the time. Some shows were interesting for being smaller and more intimate like seeing Kansas at the Meadowlands with probably a hundred people max or one of the Elton and his piano only shows in NYC before he did the Vegas stint. I did see one very cool free show, at least I think I remember it was free or really cheap, the 2nd time I saw The Zombies (who by having Rod Argent also do a few Argent hits) So tell me, if you will please, particulars that made those shows really stand out for you.

David Byrne's American Utopia was the best concert ever after Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense tour in '83. Brian Wilson's tours (with Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin) recreating Pet Sounds, with a very long encore that included half-a-dozen of the Beach Boys' other hits. Niagara -- French '80s and '90s pop-funk band Zachary Richard -- several times, although the outdoor festivals were the most memorable (get your lighter out for Travailler, c'est trop dur!) Holly Cole -- in a club, when she was just catching on in the early '90s I may write a paragraph or two for each of those concerts/theatres/clubs at a future time, but at the mo, I must contribute to a few other threads before the kids come calling.

Fair enough, but if you have time some poi t later, please do. I'd live to have seen Talking Heads or Byrne. I saw Brian Wilson do Smile solo and he was unusually genuine and humble I remember relative to other stars. It was great show. I saw the Beach Boys 50th and they were still impressive I felt. Had fun.

My early Xtc gigs were uplifting. I didn't know anyone else who liked them. So to be in a place with like minded people felt sort of special. And there was no internet then so less exposure which made it more intimate.

The down side of later years when we now have the Internet is a little unsettling. You are now in a community of 'fans' but not at a gig. And the love and inclusion you once felt at a gig is now replaced sometimes with jealousy, hate and and threats of violence. Nothing I ever experienced at an Xtc gig. But I guess that is progress?
