I recently watched the 2 part documentary LAUREL CANYON on EPIX TV channel in the USA. I thought it was wonderful, mainly for the vintage pictures and film. When they used artists narration, whether Neil Young, Chris Hillman, David Crosby or other, they didn't show their current faces but instead showed the vintage film and picts. I felt it gave a good look at the artists who lived there and I picked up some more useful information -well, useful to me. It also put some things I knew into context.
WARNING - for those allergic to the Eagles, there is a lot about them in the second half. However, it comes after examining Bertnie Leadon coming from the Flying Burritos, their stints with Linda Ronstadt and J.D. Souther's duo with Frey, so I appreciated the music history background. My wife listened to it while working but I think its important to watch- the pictures and clips are the essence.

Thanks, brian. I am allergic to the Eagles, but did watch a doc several years ago that examined the pre-Eagles history, which included lots of info and background of artists I did like. This sounds interesting to me.

I am fascinated by the place and myth. There is a good film from 2002 that mines this territory too with a great performance from Frances McDormand. I wish Van Dyke Parks would write a history of it, he witnessed it all and his interviews are brilliant.
