I've really enjoyed the new stereo and 5.1 mixes of Nonsuch and Drums and Wires - and the extras on the BluRay. The mixes are not radically different, but there are some nice enhancements for almost all the songs. The backing vocals on much of Nonsuch aren't as shrill. Much of D and W is more widescreen/powerful etc. etc. Looking forward now to the next one - Oranges and Lemons, just done by Steven Wilson. I really hope they find the tapes and do the other releases, but Mummer and Big Express especially! Sounds like Apple Venus/Wasp Star are on tap too - I wonder what SW could do for Wasp Star?
So what do you think? Like? No like? Did you get either one?

Got them both, very nicely done. "Complicated Game" in 5.1 is amazing, as is "Millions." I wish they had more room for liner notes to explain all the demo and rehearsal sessions, but it's cool to have them all. I also wish there were download links for them, but I know how protective Andy is about that kind of thing.
Nice to be getting more of Colin's stuff, which has been hard to come by over the years, relatively.
Also great to have the instrumentals. "Omnibus" sounds like a fully-formed piece of music even without vocals.

Heh heh! I have only heard the 5.1 of Nonsuch once, at an acquaintance's home. But I have asked Trevor to bring his next month, and look forward to listening to them late at night in the recording studio. THEN I will give a more informed and articulate opinion.

I'm really behind the times regarding stereo/video gear and have a question about the surround sound series.
Is it necessary or optimal to have 5.1 or bluray playback machinery in order to appreciate or even play the remixed albums?
I bought the remastered Skylarking vinyl (45rpm) a few years ago and think it's the bees knees. Is there anything in the works to release more albums on vinyl?

Putting the standard copy on a gramophone and roller skating around it gives the same effect.

I bought it and dont have the " gear" 5.1 or blue ray so you cant enjoy all the extras or the improved sound so its for tech upgarders only

Thanks, Mr. Tein. It would be grand if more of the catalog were remastered for vinyl. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that.

Is anyone looking forward to the new Oranges & Lemons 5.1 version? From past 5.1 releases, what might you expect to hear?
