Thanks for sharing miles ...I am a firm believer that you have to read history to know whether you are repeating it or not. You also need to know that the more people involved in history, the more perspectives there will be about it. I don't follow Gaffigan, but I know of him and think he's delivered humor to me that brought out laughter. I identify with his frustration with people who drank the potion that Trump has passed out...promises kept, semi-delivered upon and then rescinded to a degree. (Armed Forces got some funding, but a chunk of it was re-routed to The Fund for Wall Building.) I am hollering in agony when I dare watch the news-es, my neighbors must think I am self flagellating...to a certain extent I am, by going back to see what happened now. Ehhuugh.

Yes, as much of a news junkie that I am, lately I need days off to preserve what remains of my mental health. I very much dislike the horse race narrative pushed by the media as the campaigns heat up, and the continual gaslighting being pushed out, and only debunked later when everyone has already internalized the lies.
Gaffigan has been a favorite comedian, but not typical of those I admire, like George Carlin. His Midwest roots show, and his routines are "family friendly." This is why he might get through to a few people. I know most are too far gone.

I particularly identify with the lack of "Oh, yeah-that other crap so and so said-well it isn't true and this is why." AP wire was doing a weekly Trump debunking. I wish more news sources would carry a weekly debunking feature-not just Trump-any fallacious news that was run during primetime.

Anybody else watch US Presidential Debate last night? Anybody have a pet bird? I wanted to throw a blanket over Trump's head so he'd be quiet. Dude can't even stay silent for two minutes at a time when it is the other candidate's turn to speak. Along with a lot of other things, Trump is unaware of what the word debate means. Fact checkers on CNN said both candidates said inaccurate things, but that Trump was ahead in the number of inaccuracies.
I find no fault with Biden for his remarks about shutting that guy/clown up. I was snapping at Trump to shut up from almost the beginning of the debate. Yeesh. It was stressful for me to watch.

Didn't actually watch it. I remembered it was on, switched to it for a second... With something like that, commentary is good enough for me. From what I can tell, this is what it must have been like (debbie posted this first) But that bit about him being unable to denounce White Supremacy and instead actively encouraging a violent neo-fascist hate group. I'd say unbelievable but... Christ, it sounded rehearsed.
Some questioned Biden's own insults but if I were in the situation, I would have gone straight for the Big Lebowski.
"Shut the Fuck Up, Donnie, You're out of your element" ...social media being what it is, I bet there's already a video.

RE: Big Lebowski-zation of Biden. Yeah, Trump couldn't alienate any voters, could he? Trump's behavior was scandalous.

You don't win the argument by being as rude as the guy you oppose. This is trash talk politics. You have to be smarter than that. Shame on both of them. Ain't democracy wonderful?

Democracy is turning out to be tainted by Capitalism...maybe it is like Communism-works in theory, but human nature can derail it right quick-like.
Still, I don't want a dictator in the White House. Trump sure is attracted to them.

If you think Biden was as rude as rump, you did not watch the same debate i did. I watched enough. I prefer the Keir Starmer approach. Unfortunately Punch and Judy politics seems to appeal to the people. I don't think it's OK for a politician to be rude as long as he's not as rude as the other guy. But I guess that's where we are at. Obama and an early Tony Blair won hearts and minds by avoiding trash talk politics.
