There is a considerable push to get it included in the next Commonwealth Games. Any thoughts.

If you’ve ever dreamed of representing your country at the Olympics but can’t dive like Daley, rack up the miles like Mo, or peddle like Pendleton you might just get your chance at Tokyo 2020.
That’s because BINGO has applied to be declared an Olympic sport!
We've heard on the grapevine that the International Olympic Committee (or the IOC for short) asking for everyone's favourite game played with 90 balls to be declared an official sport. Not only that, but there are calls for bingo to be included at the Tokyo Games in four years' time.
Now that really IS a full house.
Apart from the obvious - it's a game played with balls after all - the argument is that you need "alertness, observational skills and sportsmanship" to play bingo. Three things you need for in a sport, hence applying for inclusion on the list of events played at Tokyo 2020.
And don't just think it'll be left to the buffest sports stars on the planet to battle it out in bingo, oh no! If bingo WAS to make the grade, it'd be opened up to bingo players like you and me to take centre stage at the world-famous event.
And you wouldn’t need a rigorous training regime! Sure you’d have to keep your hand in and play every now and again, but there’s no need to go on a special diet or follow an intense workout plan in your local gym.
Sounds like a result to us!
Can bingo really make it to the Olympics?
According to the IOC, all official Olympic sports need an International Federation to administer anti-doping procedures. Easy enough… and to be fair, it is VERY difficult to take performance enhancing substances to be the best at bingo…
Bingo isn’t the first more unique event hoping to bag the title of an official sport.
In 2015, the card game bridge had a bid to be classified as a sport rejected by Sports England on the grounds that there was no “physical activity” involved. And trade magazine, Bell Ringing World, are also said to be looking at getting bell ringing classed as an Olympic event too.
While we might have to wait a little longer to see if bingo ever will be classed as an Olympic sport, we can still get our practice in, in case the call comes.
How great would it be to hear cries of “Eyes Down” and “BINGO!” at Tokyo 2020?

don, you just need to set up your own Alternative Olympics. Knitting, bingo, darts, northern miserabalist 800m grump...... I reckon it's got legs, and just think what all those IOC wankers make in backhanders, eh? You could be rich, RICH, I tell you!

If the Russians play Olympic bingo, will there be a Cyrillic version?

My 88 year old mother lives in an Assisted Living Facility (a damn nice one too) Bingo is one of their main activities. If you asked her, I'm sure she would say it's a sport. The last time I visited her, I picked up her activity sheet and noticed Bingo was that evening. I told her "you should go because you can win stuff." She said she knew that and she already had won stuff. She also plays Wii Bowling. It needs it's own thread. I'm sure it's a sport too.
