Recently, I discovered that AXS, a cable channel, has great live music shows like "Live At Red Rocks" and "Live At Abbey Road." Through those shows I am discovering a whole lot of artists that have been around quite awhile that I've not heard before, but really like. Umphrey's McGee is one of them. They have as many live albums as they do studio recordings, and are a very tight group.
Does anyone know of their history? Has anyone see them perform live? I really like them. Sunday, I showed my son some YouTube vids of theirs and he immediately pointed out a Radiohead cover...which I had no idea was a Radiohead cover. I told him, yeah, there are other covers, too, like Pink Floyd and Talking Heads, and I think Zep and possibly Zappa. After a few things I shared, he wondered if his friend Mike had heard of them-Mike has several older siblings who are professional musicians and has introduced my son to a great deal of fantastic music which got passed along to me.
So please share your stories, favorites and anything you know about this band...I love this band...and I no longer trust wikipedia.

It's amazing how much talent there is in the world that, even with the advent of technology, is missed by so many people. Yet bands like Umphrey's McGee have the ability to perform for such large audiences.
While I am not a fan of this genre of music, those guys can play! Kudos to them.

Mare, your opening paragraph made me think of what might have been if today's technology and media access had been around in the heyday of XTC.

I agree, peggs! Way too much material to deal with technology making even home-made music readily available.
I have always been into rock-ish music, starting way back in the 70s. The fact that Humphrey's McGee has covered so many types of music is what I love. Plus, you are also right...these guys are jammin'!
