Hey, I didn't say it - Simp did.
I was amazed that I could still get cell and internet access way up in the Idaho/Montana wilderness on my smart phone, driving up there with Simp & Trevor last year.
Three words: Simp's wooden bear.
So have you figured out how to get on line and take pictures and video and all on it yet, Simp? Obviously your kids are the best tutors.
Did I mention that we met Simp's wife? AND one of his daughters? They are both awesome.
We saw "Whiplash" at the Wilma Theater. First time I've ever drank a beer watching a movie in a theater - legally.
And that boat ride on Flathead Lake, with Captain Joe Crepeau, and cabin boy Steve Pickel. The Skipper and the Little Buddy.
They call it "Big Sky Country" because you are so high up, it seems like you can reach up and touch the clouds. At Flathead, anyway. Missoula, not so much. (It's in a valley.)
Trevor, Simp & I listened to Yes "Fragile" on the way back. "In and around the lake, mountains come out of the sky - and they stand there." That music goes perfect with that terrain. Interesting that the terrain it was created in is so different. As is where I am now, back at sea level.
Simp could even post pictures here if he wanted to. But I wouldn't hold your breath.

But I wouldn't hold your breath. That's okay. I can hold it myself if necessary.

That's good. Because my nickname is NOT "The Respirator."
It's "The Heretic."

2,894 feet * Flathead Lake elevation 3,209 feet * Missoula Montana elevation
Jesus, I must have drank more beers on that boat trip than I had thought.

Actually I think they call it "Big Sky Country" because in the eastern part of the state - Custer country - it's mainly flat with a few draws, and you see a lot of sky. But in the far cooler and more scenic western part of the state, there are lots of mountains and valleys.
I remember eight years ago, on the Idea Forum, during the 2008 Democratic Primary, Simp proudly posted that Montana had cinched the nomination for Barack Obama.
I replied: "Wow! This must be the first time Montana has made national news since…Custer? I'm sorry, I forgot the Unabomber."
His reply was profane and unprintable.

Don't you just love a bromance? I just remembered why I don't come around here much anymore.

You know I'm pretty sure if I poke around in his catalog a bit I can find a really good Alex McMurray song that would perfectly illustrate the spirit of sweet, loving friendship that permeates this thread. Do you want me to find it and post it?

I was thinking the right thing for Simp to do is post his cell phone number here. We could all give him a call.

I was thinking the right thing for Simp to do is post his cell phone number here. We could all give him a call. And reverse the charges.

Counting lucky stars and making cioppino, thinking about dead soldiers. Looking out at the sunshine, getting ready to jump on my bike and take a ride. Oops, I will accidentally forget my phone.
Happy Memorial Day!
