There's an oddball pairing for ya That's what I thought initially but realized that they have a possibly strong connection in Paul Simon. Fun fact, Paul met Edie during the SNL episode where they did the first "five-timers" sketch - indicting Tom Hanks with Steve and other early five-time hosts. Edie was the musical guest on the episode.

I remember that five-time sketch, but nothing else of the show, and certainly not the musical guest. Oy vey, that's going back 30 years.
Thanks for the tidbit, Ned! Cool stuff.

Yeah, When they revived it for Justin Timberlake I got the impulse to search out and watch the original again. The sketch was inserted in the monologue so at the end Tom Hanks comes out and announces that Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians are the musical guest and I added it together. Did a little web-searching (it may be on one or both of their Wikipedia pages) and discovered my suspicion was right.

Whoops, just double-checked. Although they were both on that episode according to Edie's wikipedia page she first met him during her first SNL appearance 2 years earlier. He wasn't in the show- just visiting. Apparently Paul was Lorne Michael's next door neighbor and "best friend" for quite a long time (which would deepen the Simon>Martin>Brickell relations). And did you know... they ended up writing more music that became the Broadway Musical Bright Star (I didn't). It was basically a story Steve had already written but didn't like and got revived once Edie was in the picture. That album cover? Not an old photo, A painting by Martin Mull from Steve's collection. I do love losing myself down a rabbit hole.

Martin Mull! I have been enamored with him since Mary Hartman! Mary Hartman! Fernwood 2 Night is a danged good parody of any night time interview show, past and present.

Hardly anyone in the office these days so I get few visitors in the library and it's in our interests to distance anyways. SO I moved my desk from the front counter to the inside office. Dead boring. But it allows me to play music without broadcasting down the halls. Today a shuffled mix of Modest Mouse. - The Moon & Antarctica
- Good News for People Who Love Bad News
- We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
- Strangers to Ourselves
