Listening to the new album...
opening track comes in at ten minutes but is quite intersting. Mixing the sound of Bowie with an eclesiastical air.
Catch the rest at lunch time...

The next two tracks are very jazz based. Bowies voice is certianly going from baritone to soprano in a phrase. Not sure this is the music to appel to a typicl Bowie fan. its like Scott Walker (very) lite!

Fully expected not to like the album. But this is a great album. i dont think its one for the casual Bowie fan though - but I could be wrong.
Its electro jazz based, ambient more than rock n roll, and no killer songs ... glad I heard it before the hype kicks in.
No doubt 6 radio has a Bowie day already!

I am glad I had the chance to hear this album while Bowie was alive. My comment
Mixing the sound of Bowie with an eclesiastical air.
makes more sense now. As does the video to the lazarus track.
It is clear Bowie made this album fully aware his days were numbered and it looks very like his last artistic act was to produce a concept album about his death. he defined his career and passing with the refrain " I am not a pop star Im a black star". As for the lazarus video - chilling. is that death following him out of the cupboard, clawing at his bed. Is his slow, staccato walk back to the cupbaord signifying his death.
Who knows. What a way to say goodbye!

I greatly admired Mr. Bowie for continuing to create art right up until the bitter end. I don't know if I could do that.
Anyway, I've been listening to some of his music lately, and I've come to the conclusion that Let's Dance is a great album.
