Happy anniversary to the lifting of the Berlin blockade. That showed those dastardly Russkies. Wait, there aren't any Russians on this forum, are there?

Happy anniversary to Star Wars, which opened on this day in 1977. Also the English Restoration begins in 1660. I defy you call this a mere coincidence. Only a master of evil, Cromwell.

Don LaCoss, history professor extraordinaire (may he rest in peace), made British history come alive with his tales of 'The Chuck and Ollie Show".

Happy anniversary to Queen Elizabeth, whose coronation was on this date in 1953. The event was nearly disrupted by the Wire, but fortunately the Doctor saved the day at the last minute, as he is wont to do.

Happy anniversary to Cincinnati Red Johnny Vander Meer, who accomplished a feat that has yet to be repeated in Major League Baseball--consecutive no-hitters--on this date in 1938. His prize--being mentioned on ESPN every time a pitcher no-hits a team, on the off chance that history might be repeated.

Happy anniversary to Ohio native George Armstrong Custer, who entered the history books on this date in 1876 by getting killed at Little Bighorn. As George Carlin once said, "Custer? He had a really bad hair day."

Happy anniversary to Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, who both kicked the bucket on this date in 1826. I guess fifty years of America was all either one could take.

Happy anniversary to the United States Postal Service, formed on this date in 1775. This message presented by the internet, which has made the post office largely obsolete. So a sad farewell to the post office, dead on this date in 2016.

I didn't know this thread was here. I celebrated my 30th Wedding Anniversary this past April. I'd post a picture but I didn't look so bad 30 years ago. Now, I look like kinda shitty most days. 30 years hence does that to a person.

Happy anniversary to MTV, launching on this date in 1981. The channel became a sad joke in later years, but in its early incarnation, the channel introduced me to the Young Ones, the Monkees television show, Bob Mould, and some band from Swindon that sang about how dear God was to them, or something like that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk41Gbjljfo

Happy anniversary to Tricky Dick Nixon, whose political career, place in history, and avoidance of the douchebag dishonor roll all went down in flames, culminating in his resignation from the role of POTUS on this date in 1974. I never understood how this guy was a Quaker. As a lapsed Quaker, I feel confident in saying that the Society of Friends fervently disavows this paranoid warmonger. Ugh.

Happy anniversary to the CIA for helping overthrow the government of Iran on this date in 1953--thankfully, there were no negative repercussions.
