A sad anniversary to the Challenger explosion, occurring on this date in 1986. Oh, wait, Don just told me that the Challenger, like the moon landing, was fake, so no worries.

Happy 100th anniversary to Wisconsin Public Radio, the oldest continuously broadcasted radio station in the US. There are many excellent programs that originate from the station, perhaps the best known: To The Best Of Our Knowledge.

Sad, horrible, terrible anniversary for the day that Introvertigo's musical idol, Buddy Holly, was killed on this date in 1959, along with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Time to play some of Buddy's tunes, as I always do on this date (and a lot of other dates, to be honest).

I'm sorry for your loss, Introvertigo. Buddy was an amazing artist and a great influence on so many others. Long Live Buddy!

Happy anniversary to the B-52s, who performed their first show on this date in 1977. I assume they had a better day than St. Valentine, who had his head cut off on this date. To paraphrase the late George Carlin, "They ain't cutting off heads in Athens, Georgia, as far as I know."

Happy anniversary to John Lennon, whose comments in a London Evening Standard article on this date in 1966 would launch the eventual "bigger than Jesus" scandal in the U.S. But the Beatles were never as big as these guys.

Happy anniversary to the British Parliament, who passed the Boston Port Act on this date in 1774 as retaliation for the Boston Tea Party held four months earlier. The act called for the closing of the port, as well as reparations for the lost tea. Perhaps this is a distinctly American attitude, but I fucking can't stand tea. Scotch or nothing!

Happy anniversary to the Treaty of Kanagawa, opening Japan to trading partners from the United States in 1854. The treaty was pushed by President Millard Fillmore--no word if he did so just so he could get his fix of tentacle porn.
