Happy anniversary to The Great Moon Hoax, begun on this date in 1835. www.history.com/this-day-in-history/the-great-moon-hoaxLife on the moon--how silly. Everybody knows that Mars and Venus are the places to find life, although with only men on Mars and only women on Venus, life must be pretty damned dull there.

In the, my, how time flies, department, it was 25 years ago this weekend that I moved to this town on the bank of the Mississippi River. Not bad for closing my eyes and putting my finger to a map (a map of Minnesota, but close enough....).

Happy anniversary to Billy the Kid, who was arrested for the first time on this date in 1875. His crime was stealing a basket of laundry. I believe that may have been a hanging offense. "Hand over the Tide, and no one gets hurt."

Billy looks eerily like my cousin Kevin. Then you had better not leave Kevin alone with any unprotected laundry baskets. By the way, who steals laundry? Other than Billy the Kid, of course. I would think that after such a caper, your life as a criminal would be all washed up.

Happy anniversary to the Supreme Court, founded on this date in 1789. It only took the court 221 years to decide that corporations are people, free to buy elections. Fucking imbeciles.

Perhaps it was the ladies' long woolen under drawers or pettipants or something. Oh, petty theft, then.

Happy anniversary to the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear submarine, commissioned on this date in 1954. Heading into the atom age, indeed.

Happy anniversary to Sean Connery, who took up the role of James Bond once more in "Never Say Never Again," released on this date in 1983. A man his age starring in an action movie, and not a hair out of place.
