Speed knitting is very popular in some parts of the world. But the official word is it's not yet popular and widespread enough to be considered an actual sport. A minority sport maybe?

A man and his wife were sitting in church, the man was sleeping and his wife was knitting. The priest asked “Who created the Earth and man?" The woman poked the man with her knitting needle and the man screamed, “GOD!” The Priest looked at him and said, “That's right.” Then he asked “Who is God's son?” Once more the woman poked her husband with the needle, he woke up and screamed, “Jesus Christ!” Again, the priest said, “Correct.” Finally, the priest asked, “What did Eve say to Adam when she didn't want any more children?” The knitter poked her husband again, but this time he screamed “Poke me with that thing one more time and I'm going to rip it off!” The priest smiled and said, “That's right.”

Dear bimble .... for once, I can accurately say you are a sane voice of reason. Just so all of you good folks know, I happen to knit. Yes, for real. Sweaters, mitts, scarves, blankets etc. My grandmother taught me how when I was a child. don, don't you dare start with me about all I know of this hobby.

Knitting alone doesn't automatically qualify you as a sportswoman. It's the speed element you will need to sharpen up if you have any designs on competitive knitting. Knitting long-johns is a well known useful way to increase knitting speed. Good luck.

Knitting long-johns? I've knit peter heaters for a joke to take to parties as a gag gift but never knitted long-johns. That's just messed up.

I'm glad you knit: there should be more of that sort of thing around. "A sane voice of reason"? Blimey..... Sadly, don took my sarcastic comment and ran with it. I suggest we stop encouraging him RIGHT NOW. Is encouraging don a sport? Damn.

Suzi
Well there you have it, the reason you lack pace in the knitting department is clearly because you have never knitted LJ's. Sometimes the answer is so obvious we fail to see it. Patterns are available on the internet. Knitting forums are a good source of education too. Go for it!

Mind you, going on Introv's group discussion and decision on footwear, knitting can only be done, as far as I'm aware, by changing into slippers........OMG!!!!
