What a great venue, donavan. There were some amazing performers that passed through. - all for less than a fiver. Were you a member? At what point in their career did XTC play there?
Do you know if there are any current plans for the place?

It recently reopened as a music venue. XTc played there in the early days, first two albums. Then moved on to bigger venues, like Universities and nightclubs. Got to see them at Liverpool Uni and Romeo and Juliet's night club (great name, eh? ). I wasn't a member but always got a member to sign me in. The first time I went, I wasn't aware it was members only. The photographer for the NME music paper gave me his membership card and I signed my mate in as a guest. The photographer just held his camera up at the entrance, shouted NME, and walked in. I gave him back his membership card inside and bought him a pint. Highlight of the night, a mesmerizing, trance like, ten minute Beatown, with Terry Chambers driving the beat. And all this just a few strides across the street from where the Beatles played. A pretty special place. Mathew street is packed with tourists every day of the year. I very often on my lunch break take a walk down there and the memories come flooding back.
