Ive decided ti=o pick a few artists that I have loved/followed over their careers, get all their relesed music togather and go through in chronilogical order. Just to get a perseptive on how they started, developed, changed, regressed, fell off the rails, returned to form over a career.
Starting off with Joe Jackson. In spite of being a Skate, he has produced interesting and non conformist music and still is. Have had to fill in a few gaps before I could start... Mikes Murder sound track for example. So far I am up to Body and Soul.
The first two albums, were short sharp new wave and fun. The third album was a bit off track but you can see was a definate and necessary stepping stone from the basic new wave sound to the more mature and lush Night and day. Somewhere in their the tribute album - Jumpin Jive, was a great experiment and at the time helped lead me back to older musical genres.Mike Murder seemed to be badly recordered, as if being played on a toy piano - maybe best forgotten. But when Night and day kicks off with another world... wow what a start to an album.
Only about another dozen albums to go...

Same here, Mr. Tein. I'm looking forward to hearing/seeing what you have to say. The depth and breadth of your musical interests are fascinating.

I am from southampton and Joe is a portsmouth lad. Two cities that have a lot of animosity between them. They call us scummers. We call them skates. This is because Portsmouth has a strong link to the royal navy, going back to the times of henry V111 and so the city alsways had a lot of sailors. Now it is said that when at sea many a sailor would pass th time of day with the fish known as a skate due to its similarity to part of the female anatomy. hnece a term of derision. Bizzarly, on the sea front, they have a signs showing a Skate park. For skateboards though. makes us laugh!
