... because if I post it on Facebook the people I'm talking about will know I'm talking about them. And the whole point is to stop talking!
I need to make myself stop trying to convince people on FB that they don't know what the flip they're saying when they post idiotic shit about how much they admire this or that brain dead Republic twit. Or when they post garbage about how the Syrian refugees are really all Muslim young men, entering countries to take them over like a modern day Trojan horse. I need to ignore this nonsense and accept the fact that many of the sweet kids I knew as a youth grew up to be really stupid. And possibly hateful. Or at least really misguided. Even the cute boys from high school.
If anybody reading this thread, (is anybody reading this thread?), is on FB and you see me start to go off on one of these people, please jerk my chain and make me stop. Maybe we could have a code word you could post to remind me to shut up and back away slowly. How about tippy-toe? Yeah, please post "tippy toe" and I'll keep my opinions to myself and just talking about the weather or something instead.

I sympathise: some of the idiotic crap that people come out with beggars belief. Still, they're doing the best they can with the beliefs they have. That's all you can tell yourself.

theres is a cartoon I have seen somewhere but not to hand. Theres a guy sat at home on his computer and his wife is stood next to him and he says " I cant go to bed. Somebody has said something wrong on the internet."
The thing to rememmeber is you cant change peoples minds, alter their views etc etc. if I get invlvoed in things I state my beleif or view. make it clear its my view or belief. Hoepfully, make them think, using the poweres of humour or satire or sarcasm. Then move on.
If somebody beleives in God ( or not) nothing you say will change their mind!
The other thing I do is try to find common ground. i have some right wing crazies on my facebook but it is surprising that there are things you do agree on.

Thanks for saying this, longinglook. I posted on a grade school friend's wall couple days ago in response to her posting of some Pope stuff. I typed a quick "Thank you Pope Francis"...my friend had shared someone's apparently misquoted material that the Pope said not all people who have spirituality are religious, and that non-religious good people are still good people. A person who I do not even know responded with a extensively posted rant on the fact that it was a misquote, complete with links, and shaming.
Sigh. It made me feel like deleting my post so as not to be associated with future hell-goers. Then I thought about it, and left the whole deal alone. I may have been baptized one way, but I stopped being deluded at age 15.
My friend had not responded at the time I reviewed the post, but if she "unfriends" me, oh well. We went to Catholic school together.

If everyone was as wise and thoughtful as you lovely folks, the world would be a much better place. Facebook would be better, too.

So, I was just on FB and I saw a post from my cousin's wife, gushing over the Back Friday present he bought her. It was a handgun. She posted a picture of it.
After I threw up a little bit in my mouth, my only thought was that maybe I should move to another country.

After I threw up a little bit in my mouth, my only thought was that maybe I should move to another country. Honestly? The most trouble I've had on Facebook was with family. Not my own but on my husband's side; especially our one niece. This girl is such a delicate little snowflake, you can't give any difference of opinion or idea other than hers. Everything not in agreement with what she says is a personal attack on her. She needs to get the hell off of Facebook and grow up. I don't even HAVE her on my friend's list for obvious reasons. Generally I have no other issues with Facetubecrackaddict.

If one more asshole on FB talks about Obama faking tears in his speech the other night when he was talking about the brutal murder of a bunch of 6 YEAR OLD CHILDREN, I swear to fucking Christ I am going to go crazy!
don, I'm *this close* to kicking FB to the curb.

Bad bummer, Longing Look! I really liked your Chrimbo Tree recycling post and the link you added!
My mind used to be a lot more closed than it has become in the past five years...I was quick to judge by my standards and ignored the standards of others. Now, I only judge myself by my standards, but I have a lot of family members that believe in the Right to Bear Arms. And they do! Me, no, I think it is not a good idea.
I was touched to see President Obama's emotional response to such terrible losses of life, so many-so young! I think this is something he'd like to effect change on, and I hope others were as moved as I was. (Even though I already agreed with him.)
You can limit the posts you see from a person, you don't have to necessarily delete them completely.

longinglook, it is difficult to respond to people who have been groomed to accept the ultra-conservative viewpoint espoused by the loudmouth bullies that call themselves leaders in this day and age. You could say to them, 'your emperor has no clothes, you stupid twats!'. But it would no doubt fall upon deaf ears.

don, I'm *this close* to kicking FB to the curb. Hi LL, well I don't do FB because it ruins and kills the corner shop in favour of the big massive out of town retail park. There is a place for both but people will always chase the latest shiny groovy thing, which in turn destroys the very thing that worked perfectly well in the first place. Even a AP forum wasn't enough to keep XTC fans from the mall. But it is what it is, and you will always be one of my good pals on the struggling unfashionable virtual high street.
