Today, I got a dose of Fly on the Wall and Mayor of Simpleton from Alexa. And just now, Sgt. Rock. This morning: English Roundabout and Melt the Guns.

Today, I got a dose of Fly on the Wall and Mayor of Simpleton from Alexa. Don't you just love how Alexa can't pronounce the band name as initials? me-"Alexa, play music by XTC" it-"Now playing songs by Ecstasy!"

I've got an Echo Dot on each floor. My kids are spread out all over the house and out of sight and I need help rounding them up for meals and talks. They use theirs as a jukebox and alarm clock, too. Meh. It was selling at 70% off... why not?

They are spying on you.

I'm not spy-worthy.

Then I shall make a bloody nuisance of myself until I drive them mad!

I asked, Alexa says she's not spying on me... I've been trying out the experiment where I sit next to my Echo and, with no prompt, mention a product out loud I have no interest in and never search for or talk about anywhere online. Like saying "I wonder how much a Turkey Deep Fryer costs" (not the object I talk about- as typing about it would ruin the experiment) and see if Amazon starts trying to sell me one. It hasn't happened with me though.

Alexa has both the English Settlement and Oranges & Lemons albums -- for now, at least. My record player sits dusty and lonely as I ply Alexa with gentle, murmurous requests for Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Holly Cole and Peggy Lee.

Fossil Fool Ed did participated in a podcast about XTC, and in particular, Black Sea. Have a listen! "ALBUM APPRECIATION OF XTC's 'BLACK SEA' Alongside tracks from the album The Saint of RETROPOPIC RADIO talks with Ed Percival of the XTC tribute band Fossil Fools about the classic album 'Black Sea'. When did XTC first come onto Ed's radar? What does Ed know about the cover art? Where does the album title come from? Why is lead off track 'Respectable Street' so highly regarded? What makes 'Generals & Majors' so difficult to play? Why does Ed rate 'Rocket From A Bottle' so highly? How does Ed regard final track 'Travels In Nihilon'? Remember RETROPOPIC RADIO is the global home of the great album appreciation." soundcloud.com/user-822123264/xtcs-black-sea-an-album-appreciation-featuring-ed-percival-of-xtc-tribute-band-fossil-fools

Here is an odd sighting, hearing, imagining, whatever. I remember reading something Andy wrote about "Take This Town" being penned for a movie soundtrack and being annoyed that it was only used in the background playing on a radio, briefly. I had a dream a few nights ago (yes, I actually slept!), and the song was playing over whatever I was dreaming about, really odd given that I don't think I have listened to that track (or Rag and Bone Buffet in general) in the last decade, in all probability. Wait--do I owe Andy royalties now?

I thought Take This Town fared better in that movie (Times Square) I remember that that was the case with Happy Families in its movie (She's Having A Baby)
...But I admit that I haven't seen either movie.
Most prominent XTC movie soundtrack insert I can think of is "I'd Like That" in Me, Myself & Irene... Although I still insist XTC and whatever ad-man involved in getting the song in that scene should have pushed "Stupidly Happy" instead. Wasp Star was being released around the same time and it fit the scene so much better. It would have been brilliant cross promotion.
They've had many good TV inserts in the past 20 years though.
