Reading The Thin Man again, as it was still on my bedroom dresser from the last time I read it. I watched the Powell-Loy movies again not so long ago. I read the credits.

I have been on a kick rereading my Haruki Murakami novels. As such, I ordered a number of his books I had either not read previously or used to own and somehow lost over the years. I've got a box from Amazon with eight books to peruse in the next couple of months.

Haven't read much the last month or so. Started rereading Peter Straub's Shadowland a couple of days ago.

Been reading manga mostly lately but I love the Discworld series from Terry Pratchett and have read and reread it a number of times.

I started The Silmarillion, a posthumous publication from J.R.R. Tolkien put together by his son. It tells of The Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings' world creation stories and stories of events preceding those books. Perhaps more but that's what I've read so far. Its fun.

I have finished a massive biography of JWM Turner's first 40 years. There was supposed to be volume 2 covering the rest of his life, but the author died so we'll see if they can cobble one together. He is my favorite artist. Back in 2015, we traveled down to San Francisco to see a show of his paintings.
I have read a good number of graphic novels recently including Barry Windsor Smith's "Monsters." It was more like a novel profusely illustrated, than the usual books, more character development of the tragic variety than action.
Just finished the 1st installment of Brubaker and Phillips new series, "Reckless.' He is a solid writer and Philips art compliments the story. The only drawback is I read them too fast, I barely stretched this one out to 2 days.
Read the reissue of Stormbringer by Moorcock, adapted by Craig Russell. Some good moments but underwhelming.

I read that when I was 19, after my Summer College quarter ended. It was filled with details with places and names and circumstances...I had to keep looking at the maps within the front and back covers to try to figure out how everything related so I could establish context. It was like reading a History textbook. About halfway through the book, I didn't have to look at the maps so much. I know I liked it, but I can't remember a thing from it. Enjoy!

Same here, I read it after the trilogy and don't remember a thing about it, but enjoyed the read.

A few weeks ago I was at a store, a "closeouts" warehouse, a growing US chain called Ollies. They have a comics section in the front, by their large book area. I found Volumes 1 & 3 of the Legion of Superheroes Omnibus releases for $30 each ($99.95 cover price- they’re big). It sparked a long forgotten goal to collect the complete original runs of this series in some form or another. Mr Tein knows this struggle, but surpassed it long ago.
It seems that I have been unaware that DC have been releasing a lot of these comprehensive LOSH collections over the past 5 years or so.
The problem is that some are already out of print and had small print runs and are hard/ expensive to get. Like, the Vol. 2 Omnibus is only selling for like $300-400! But because it was released, the publications that these Omnibuses replaced, the smaller “Archives” editions aren’t as expensive as they used to be. Each Omnibus was as big as 3 Archives. So I was able to get Archives 4-6 for about $75 on eBay to fill the gap. Then to fill in the other gaps. There were some other HC or TPB collections- a couple relatively inexpensive, a couple not.
The next problem was that there were 13 archives but only 3 Onmibuses. I paid up a little and got Archive 10 at about $50… but the other three were just too expensive (as they were the only compiled collections of these comics available- and out of print for 20 years). Plus- “Volume 3”- only the first dozen of these 60 or so comics were ever collected in poorer quality collections.
But I already had a lot of these in regular comic books. In fact, coincidentally, just a couple weeks before I found the Omnibuses, I bought a box full of the older LOSH comics for $30 to help a work friend who was selling comics to save for a trip. And I already had most of Vol. 3. So… back to eBay. Amazingly, only talking about a gap of 30 comics. Between the missing comics from the Archives period + V.3
At this point, only missing one of the HC collections that come.
Still… $30 to help a friend, a couple $30 bargain books… it has led to like $400 in total over a few weeks… none of which I ‘needed’ to spend… and who knows when I’ll have time to read it all. Yet I feel so accomplished. Everything from Superboy traveling to the future to join the “Superhero club” from 2958… to 1994’s disastrous Zero Hour reboot. Finally have it all, in one form (comic) or another (compiled books). I could also go a digital route… but then what would I put on my bookcase?
Let’s see: HC: Legion of Super Heroes: The Silver Age Omnibus, vol. 1 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes Archives, Vol. 4 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes Archives, Vol. 5 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes Archives, Vol. 6 HC: Legion of Super Heroes: The Silver Age Omnibus, vol. 2 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes Archives, Vol. 10 Comics: Superboy starring the Legion of Super Heroes #203–221 Comics: Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes #222–233 HC: Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol. 1 HC: Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, Vol. 2 (still looking for, overpriced- but have most of the comics) HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness Vol. 1 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness Vol. 2 HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: The Great Darkness Saga Deluxe Edition HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse Deluxe Edition Comics: Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes #314–325 (have never been compiled) Comics: Legion of Super-Heroes vol. 3, #1–63, Annual #1–4 (also have a TPB that contains the first six issues- and there’s another that goes up to issue 13- I’ll probably get it at some point) HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: Five Years Later Omnibus, Vol. 1 (I also have all the comics- Vol. 4 LOSH and “Legionnaires”) HC: Legion of Super-Heroes: Five Years Later Omnibus, Vol. 2 (I also have all the comics- Vol. 4 LOSH and “Legionnaires”)
and then Zero Hour destroyed the series and they've tried like three more reboots since.

Nice find. I saw a comic series I was interested in the Ghostbusters one must have had a limited run It certainly out of print and they're fetching similar ridiculous prices. So for now I'm sticking with digital. I wish they would reprint them.

I forgot if I mentioned this elsewhere but here seems appropriate. I'm curious to see in October the new release from the author who made Calvin and Hobbes. It's nothing like it apparently and called the mysteries and he's the writer primarily rather than the illustrator it seems he teamed up with another person for that. I don't think it's a lot of material it's a hardcover book under 100 pages with a page of sparse words and then a page of illustrations nonetheless after 25 to 30 years it would be curious to see what he puts out.

Follow-up ...These books (and some Jonah Hex TPBs I also ordered) have started rolling in from the sellers. So I decided to organize my shelves and...
I need another bookcase.
bluedemon25, yeah. I've heard about Watterson's new thing. I've, oddly, never been as much of a superfan of his though. So, I'm interested to see what he'll do, but probably won't pick it up myself.

Not sure if it's easily doable for you but it sounds like an impressive bookcase or cases perhaps if possible you could share a photo? Am I the only one who appreciates seeing my collection and it's glory on a bookcase All of my collection tends to be miscellaneous books of fiction and nonfiction I'm most certainly have an appreciation for the genre and comic books and so on. Big fantasy fiction fan although I'm very very picky. I could afford it I'm sure I would have shelves and shelves and shelves and manga I do the less admirable reading online since finances are exceptionally tight.
