This time of year the stores have brussels sprouts, which I kind of liked, but wasn't sure how they were best cooked. I usually sauté them, but last night I coated some with olive oil, salt, pepper and lemon juice and roasted them in the oven with a chicken. They were incredible! They were transformed from the typical cruciferous taste to a nutty flavor and texture. The little crunchy burnt leaves on the outside were addictive.

I had chicken wings for dinner. I heard a report yesterday that wing prices are very low right now, as all of the wing restaurants are closed, so wings are being sent to grocery stores at slashed prices. I hope this is true and that I get some cheap wings the next time I risk passing through the diseased hordes at the supermarket.

I am thinking about cooking some chicken drumsticks for dinner. And in regards to my last post about wing prices dropping--fucking bullshit. Where is the swear box?

It was my third child's 13th birthday, yesterday. They wanted pizza for dinner with all sorts of crazy sauces and toppings, so that's what we had. Not haute cuisine, but the restaurants are still closed, so...

I have not taken up baking bread, but I have been trying more home pickling. I have been using turnips, carrots. red onions, cauliflower, garlic cloves and jalapenos. Instead of the salting technique, I am making a vinegar brine with sugar and salt, and refrigerating. Doesn't taste like much the first day but every day they get better. I have more to learn about spices, and I'm trying different vinegars, apple cider, rice wine etc.

I get pickled at home most nights, although we may not be talking about the same thing.

True--launching a hamster from a slingshot is exceptionally cruel.
