I've lost 3.5 stone (50 lbs) in the past 12 months. High cholesterol and triglyceride levels -- all hereditary, I swear! -- forced me to become a born-again-vegetarian whilst also eliminating white rice, potatoes, breads, pasta and dairy products from my diet. So last night's dinner consisted of fresh corn on the cob and a bowl of homemade veggie chili washed down with a glass of potassium-heavy almond milk.

I chew my food, Don.
Legumes take the place of meat. Sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. Stick a soy-based patty between two slices of quinoa bread, and you've got yourself a tasty burger. Lots of healthy black and brown rice mixed with olive oil-cooked bell peppers, mushrooms, onions and celery sprinkled with sriracha or chutney. Pecan-and-raisin socca. Lots of fruit and Greek yoghurt. Salads. Tuna and salmon. I have the advantage of having lived a number of years in East Asia, where this sort of diet is common.

Veggie hot dog on a slice of quinoa bread, garnished with sauerkraut, mustard, black olives and sriracha. Seedless grapes for dessert.
I made the kids a modified Lancashire hotpot -- ground pork instead of mutton. Everyone had a second helping -- and my son's girlfriend, three, lol. Baguette and roasted garlic goat cheese after the meal.
