I don't even like or follow (US) football much, but it was a damned good game.

Sorry, Jeffie...The Redcoats were the British in the American Revolution...The Patriots were the Colonists. The Colonists won the Super Bowl. But you see Mare, the American British sympathizers were patriots also - patriotic to the King, the Crown, the Commonwealth. They were 'loyalists.' And they considered the 'colonists' traitors. Hence Benjamin Franklin's comment during the signing of the Declaration of Independence: "Gentlemen, we must all hang together - or we shall certainly all hang separately." The loss of the American colonies prompted a change in how Britain governed its other overseas possessions. Parliament no longer administered them by "direct rule" - rather, they were operated by government companies, such as the Dutch East India Company. There is an exhibit in the Tower of London - one of many (go if you ever get there, it's great!) - that details EVERY war England has been in since 1066. That's a LOT of wars! The Crusades…the Hundred Years War…the War of the Roses…that nasty business with Oliver Cromwell…etc. One of the ONLY ones they did not win is the "War of the Colonies" (as they call the American Revolution.) And the end, they say something like: "This conflict proved that superior armament, strategy and numbers are not always victorious - a fact the Americans learned in Vietnam." Absolutely true. But it made me think: "They're still just a little ticked off about it, aren't they?" (edit: revised 'The only one' to 'One of the only ones…' - forgot about that Irish business.)
