The 2016 PDC World Championship got under way on Thursday.
Some argue it is one of the most open tournaments ever, while others see world number one Michael van Gerwen as the overwhelming favourite.
The 26-year-old Dutchman has won all four of the major televised events leading into the event and is undoubtedly the player to beat.
Gary Anderson overcame Phil Taylor to win his first world title in January and is again among the main contenders at Alexandra Palace.
Despite that defeat, 16-time world champion Taylor should not be discounted either - and nor should Adrian Lewis, Robert Thornton and Peter Wright, who have all featured in major finals during 2015.
But can anyone stop an in-form Van Gerwen as he bids for a second world title?

Does the winner receive a wheel of sharp cheddar cheese cut into twenty triangular slices? Wait, better make that a nice holey wheel of Swiss.

I am so happy with your post, you are the champion of this thread for recognising the sport of darts for what it is, a true sport.

Grin!
Here's what Wikipedia says: "Sport (UK) or sports (US) are all forms of usually competitive physical activity or games which,[1] through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators.[2] Usually the contest or game is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other."
Darts is a competitive game. You must be skilled, you entertain yourself and spectators...competitors attempt to exceed each other in points...it seems obvious to me. I always have to defend NASCAR racing as a sport, it qualifies by this definition, as well. It is televised and tens of thousands of people come to view the races. Drivers and team owners get points, you have to be skilled to drive 200 mph. And second place is the first loser...SPORT!
