My neighbour down the road has had ten concussions in the last year. He only lives a stone's throw away.

What a week.Just have to write it out. I'm fine, just saddened. which is normal and healthy.
The U.S. passed 100,000 corona virus deaths. Lately we've got high profile racists killing in the south and North recorded for all to see, intolerance all over.I watched live footage and news of Minneapolis last night and was only able to fall asleepsome ttime after 3 am.Almost midnight now. Our president's main focus is on a very silly very high profile Twutter fight, basically.
In the world of my preferred entertainment choice: After 10 months the perpetrator of one of the deadliest attack on civilians Japan, setting the Kyoto Animation Studio on fire, has finally been formally been arrested. He meant to die himself and was also seriously wounded so they waited until he recovered.
And at The Anime News Network, a site I've followed at least in part for most of its existence and have been an at least weekly forum visitor for 10 years, the supervising editor, who was their first paid employee after graduating college 20 years ago, was found dead in his apartment last week. The family and company are understandably being private about the circumstances but some word has gotten out and it can at least be said he lost a personal battle with depression and self-loathing. I like to think it was probably unintentional rather than a purposeful suicide. He was open and candid about his depression in the ANN podcast he hosted, on his personal Twitter, and blog. Recent podcasts featured calls to listeners to pay attention to self-care and just a couple days before was writing about fighting what gets him down- not succumbing to anything. Because he was the face/ voice of the site, even if he was not always a popular one, the site is streaming an online memorial to him next week.
One of the volunteer moderators then told his own story (in a more private "subscriber" forum) about going halfway in a suicide attempt last week before turning back.
Just not a good week.

Then Trump tweets, 'When the looting starts the shooting starts.'

You have a gift for understatement. The worse things get, the more detached and incoherent rump becomes. I am worried about those asshole who WANT a race war, and think it's time to bring out their arsenals for some target practice. "Your blood, my soil."

I am sorry for your loss, Ned. I am saddened, too, and any person with a healthy range of emotions probably is. It is an emotionally high intensity time, and yes, as the supervising editor at The Anime News Network (may he rest peacefully) reminded us, positive self care and support for ourselves is what we need to do. Reach out. Don't be reluctant to speak with someone about your feelings (as you have done) and don't give up. Kaiser sent me a link to an ap called "Calm." I am anti-ap, but that is one I will look into. I have family members that have attempted and some successfully committed suicide. You lived in Minneapolis, didn't you? I know you resided someplace very cold in Winters before you moved to the Southeastern US. It is hard to see places you have lived or have family in having civil uproar. Another place of dissent is a city, Fontana, near me. (The LA Riots back in the day were startlingly bad, more like Minneapolis. I think a police unit was jumped on and upturned in Los Angeles.) A local reporter interviewed the Fontana Mayor, who reported that it started as a peaceful demonstration by students there with their parents. At one point, the parents went to the Mayoress and told her there were people there they did not know and the parents were taking their kids home. The other protestors went off and started up violence at the City Hall. Yes, something needs to change, but violence only begets violence. Somebody needs to be strong enough to not react with force. Emotional strength is tougher to come by than physical strength. My Song of the Day's title is directly related to how I feel about politics, the pandemic, destruction of lives and property, and the cacapoopoo mess that things are. Fortunately, we have each other and can be supportive. I hope your days become much better, Ned.

Anarchists have come to town...not just Los Angeles, but in my area (my city was on the news last night)...I had no idea how many people demonstrating/looting/rioting had people from out of the area coaxing them along, pushing their way to the front and inciting demonstrators to do destructive things. Who are these out of towners? Is there such a thing as Dark Reality? Just Organized Unrest? Rent A Riot? Mobile Lobbyists?
WTF? What is wrong with peaceful demonstration? This is VERY orchestrated and devious, when I believe the point was to be reverent and mindful.

There are white supremacist dudes mingling with the protesters and the smash it up anarchists, eagerly burning down black communities. How can you tell who is who? This is the point where the FAR left and the booglaloo boys meet, to destroy society and let the chips fall where they may.
From an activist:
"St. Paul mayor says that all arrests made in St. Paul last night were from out of town. That they were unknown to community leaders. That they are taking advantage of the legitimate pain of the community in order to destroy that same community."

It doesn't achieve anything.

'WTF? What is wrong with peaceful demonstration?' It doesn't achieve anything. When the violence is entitled white kids looting, it accomplishes less than nothing.

Sorry miles I get what you say, with some reservations about white kids. Not a good road to go down. Trump in reverse. No white kids out there with genuine empathy, entitled or not? But peaceful protest achieves nothing. And that was the question. So I stand by what I said.
