Most of the Take Away/ Salvage stuff is still a good listen.

Always Winter, Never Christmas is still a top 5 song for me (of ALL XTC songs). Sure the demo instrumentation is poor but the tune is fun and I absolutely love the metaphors and am a sucker for a poetic literary allusion.

The "muddy puddle" improv never gets old.

Having a garden Xtc hour. You know when you have head phones on and you sing out loud.

One good thing about the recent re-releases are the exposure of a lot of the rarities, easily missed by someone like I am who didn't know much about the band until the early 90s. Also, I am a firm believer in conspicuous consumption. Oh, cowardly unoriginal Earth.

Intro, were you on any previous XTC forums?

Just the tail end of the APE forum--no pun intended, or was it? But most of my forum activity has been here at the Back Porch.

Your name on APE? Did we talk? AP set up that forum for the fans. But the fans were bigger fans of FB. And it all collapsed. I think my last chat with Andy was go for Twitter if that fits best for you. He did and the rest is history. Funny old world, innit?

Yeah, I had the same name. I imagine that we conversed at some point, as I remember you, Miles, Mr Tein, Truzzi, Ned, Simp, Mare, Suzi--basically, all the people who signed up for the Back Porch when the other forum shut down.

Can't remember you mate, sorry. Was I such of a big twat that I've been made out to be? Don't really care, so don't hold back.

Not to me, you weren't--it might help that I also have my reservations about Andy losing it politically over the last decade or so (I feel like this is less controversial now, but at the time of the APE forum, I think folks were a little reluctant to admit that Andy could be a real shit at times, and that you were ahead of the group in acknowledging that idea).

Cheers, I remember Andy's tantrums always being dismissed as throw away comments, which amused me at the time. I think a lot of folks didn't embrace that it was a public forum and that was going to come with a few ups and downs. Hence the retreat to Facebook where people could choose to be surrounded by their own friendship groups. Still puzzles me why XTC fans didn't want to be on a forum hosted by AP. Oh well, everything decays.

Staying stuck in your own self-reinforcing bubble does one no good, either. And that's obviously what Partridge had in mind with Twitter. Followers raving over his latest breakfast tweet and such. When the heat finally came, he took his ball in a huff and left in a hurry.

I've just got a new phone and it came with six months free Spotify Premium. So loads of songs and albums. I do find myself getting bored of tracks, XTC included and skipping to the next one. Too much choice means I hardly listen to a single song all the way through. A case of more is less.
