The Datsun 240z and 260z were the cars I lusted after most as a teen and 20-something. There was a very nice silver one that I passed on my way to work every morning that I would have died for. But, y'know, mortgages and kids and stuff stopped me ever having one.

My second car was one of these an MG Midget with a removable hardtop. You had to guess the weather pretty well if you wanted the top off as you couldn't take it with you. Mine had no brakes to speak of but I'm told that was fairly common. My first car was handed down to me by my brother, a Hillman Hunter with the hottest heater known to man.

Then I got one of these - Ford Escort RS2000 - a real boy racer's car. I had to go to Manchester for work and I parked it in a city centre car park. The parking attendant told me I shouldn't leave it there as it was certain to get stolen. I thought, ho ho what a joker. when I got back it had gone. Attachments:

This is very similar to the first car I ever owned, an orange Fiat Mirafiori: Mine had the steering wheel on the left instead of the right. It looked cool, but it was a piece of shit.

Lostjockey, the Midget looks a like it was a fun car to drive; very sporty! European model autos have always fascinated me. Like simpleton's Fiat; it has an air of exotica about it.

Yes, Truzzi, my Fiat looked exactly like that, except that it was a four-door. And yes, we have established that it was a piece of shit. And yes, your Nova was a piece of shit, too.

my first car was a twin carb 1.8 Morris Marina bit like this. However more interesting was how I cam to own. I was walking along the street and saw an envelope that looked like it had money in it. Shops were shut it was about 7.00 in the evening. Picked it up and it had in todays money about £7000 in it. Looked around but couldnt see anybody in a frenzy so hightailed to the police station round the corner and handed it in. They took my detials and said they would check bankds etc for lost cash. Forgot about it till 3 years later i got a call from the old bill saying sadly nobody claimed the money they couldnt trace it so it was in the law of finders keepers mine. And thats how I bought my first car

I'm looking forward to my drive day at Brands Hatch in August, with a McLaren MP4/12C and a Ferrari 360... 6 miles in each, then a test in a Fiat 500 Abarth... then get shown how to really drive the baby Fiat... can't wait :-)

Mr. Tein, that's a neat story and a very cool car; it looks like butterscotch candy. Whoah, sticksman, are you really The Stig? Have a blast!
